Iguanadon
Anybody go to the event in Ohio yesterday/today? I just got a call from Harvey Byler Sr. and he said that Harvey Jr. attended yesterday and met Steve Good. I had mentioned Steve Good to Harvey Sr. a couple of times letting him know that Steve is kind of a "guru" of scrollers and is very popular and has quite a following, so it was kind of cool that Harvey Jr. got to meet him. I just wondered if anyone from here happened to go and saw an Amish gentleman wandering the event. He'd have been obvious in that he was the only one not taking a selfie. meflick
One day maybe I will get to that or another event. Too much going on this time of year right now. Daughter graduates from college this weekend. I knew Steve was going as he had referenced it on his blog. Perhaps he will give a plug for Harvey's puzzles one day. OCtoolguy
I'd sure like to see some sort of event come back to the So. Cal. area again. It's been a long time since we have had a woodworking show of any kind around here. It got too expensive to put on so they stopped having them. Too bad. They should find a field somewhere and put up a "revival" type tent and have free parking too. Can you see me dreaming again?
Rockytime
Gotcha Ray. We no longer see shows in Denver either. OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
1 hour ago, Rockytime said: Gotcha Ray. We no longer see shows in Denver either. Back in 1985 or 6 I went to a Woodworking Show somewhere in Colo. Springs. That's where I bought my Hawk 26" scroll saw. I took it home, put it together and never used it for anything. If I recall, I paid about $600 for a dust catcher. It used a belt and a two groove pulley underneath. I ended up selling it to my neighbor. It lives in Tennessee now on their farm. Woodmaster1
Sounds like it would be a fun experience. I might have to make the 4 hr drive sometime. OCtoolguy

JTTHECLOCKMAN
I happened to look at an older Creative Woodworks and Crafts magazine 2004 just yesterday, and was looking through it and noticed so many of the long time pattern makers and saw Harveys name with many of his puzzle packages listed for sale. Saw names like Jacob and Wayne Fowler, Phiip Wilson, Vernon Brown, Shelli and Kerri Robinson, Sheila Bergner, Marilyn Carmin, Robert Hiavacek SR., Wes Demerest articles, John Nelson, John Polhemus (the white Buffalo) Dianna Thompson, Dirk and Karen Boelman, articles written by Scott Kochendorfer, Nancy Jones, ever popular carvers Ivan Whillock, pen related articles from Joe Herrmann and all put together by a friend of mine and editor at that time Robert Becker and also one of the big sponsors Steebar who I did alot of work for back in the day. Many other noted pattern makers graced those magazines as well. I know I am leaving out quite a few. Also listed were the many scrollsawing events and back then they called them picnics around the country. I attended a few back then and had a great time. I am sure some of the older scrollers here know what I am talking about and probably remember many of the designers that worked for those magazines back then. Probably a few of these people are not with us any more but their names will live on and their work will be out there. Those magazines did alot to promote the scrolling industry and many projects were born from them as well as many articles written about this field. I have many of these magazines that go back to when they first started and no I do not get any magazines any more but it is always fun to see and look through some of these. Many of the projects are as relevant today as they were back then. Trip down memory lane. OCtoolguy and NC Scroller 1
stevan
I had thought about going but it's like a 5 hour drive from Lexington. If I actually retire in 2020 maybe I'll make the 2021 show. There just does not seem to be enough time right now to take a weekend out like that. OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
Ahhh yes, retirement it good. Now, if there was just a show to go to within a day's drive.
rjweb
I am retired, but was just to busy to go 2 hours to the Huston Texas show, I seem to had time when I was working, RJ
Sparkey
I never hear about these until they are over.
heppnerguy
I have never been to a wood working show. Scrappile told me about a wood working show he went to in Tri-Cities Washington and he did not think it was all that good. There maybe something like that in Phoenix but so far, I have not heard of any. Dick heppnerguy
