If someone has, I would like to know where the mechanical parts might be found. I would also like to know how the animals are made to go up and down. I wish Cherrytree gave more detail. It is an expensive plan, and I would think more info would be provided to help a person make a decision about attempting it. Guess I will contact them if I get more serious about it, not like I don't already have enough project in backlog..... Didn't someone on here build ..... just searched it, @EarltheScroller did and I think he must have use these plans as a guide... if you look at the base fretwork and the middle. Unfortunately when he passed away, all his pattern books and his woodshop contents went to my brother in law.. and he don't even saw.. he ended up selling all the stuff after he said I could have it and he'd bring it to me next time he was in the area... that was back in 03.. Without looking at the plans, I could see a simple motor/switch setup, or better yet, some wooden gears/shafts/crank to make it go around. For the animals, I would have free-floating dowels (maybe have the top/bottom flattened a bit to keep them from randomly spinning in circles) and have the bottom of the dowel riding in a groove/channel in the base of the carousel. The groove would have a rolling depth, so that as the groove rose, the dowel was pushed up. Doesn't have to be very far, just enough for some up/down movement. Hmmm.....now I'm intrigued. I like cutting gears! It is intriguing, but I put it in the cart and with shipping it is a $37+ plan! That is almost as much a the street organ plans I purchased and it was a thin book and came from the UK! I wish Earlthescroller was available, he could help explain. I am so weak....I am a patternholic for sure.... Okay this is the last pattern I will buy in my life,,, I swear! If I get it built, I am giving it to my S-I-L's folks for having us visit at their house for the fly-in. The pattern is a small price to pay for a flight in a Stearman bi-plane... My first born flew the F-14 Tomcat, and the F-18 Superhornet, plus many other planes, including a WWII bomber, but he has not ever flown in an open cockpit plane of any kind, let alone a Stearman.... he is jealous of me! My Dad was Airforce, so I grew up catching MAC flights all over the place and found it rather odd that other kids in civilian schools had never had the pleasure of sitting for 9 hours on web seating or trying to sleep on top of the cargo pallets down the middle of the plane, nor watched a mid-ocean refueling of an F14. Having discovered a liking for military history, I'd LOVE to get a flight in a prop-driven warbird, whether it be a Stearman, Gooneybird, or (drool) Lightning. Scrappile Posted July 6, 2018 Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2018 Here I am again, rationalizing to myself why I should attempt this project. I just kinda think I want to take on another challenging project that is more than scrolling patterns but involves the scroll saw. I want something to work on like the street organ I built. Every phase was a new challenge for me... I really enjoyed it. I may not do this, but it would probably be the second most challenging project I have attempted of this order if I do. Organ was number one. But alas, no new project until I can get my eyes fixed. I go in for evaluation for cataract surgery on the 31st. If I get to have it done I will be able to have shunts put in my eyes at the same time which will hopefully relieve the pressure in my eyes. Maybe I won't have to put drops in my eye twice a day any more.... But if the shunts don't work so good, at least if the cataracts are cleared up I will be able to see the scroll saw blade and the pattern clearly again... meflick 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rockytime Posted July 9, 2018 Report Share Posted July 9, 2018 Here's hoping you can get your vision taken care of. A few years ago I was nearly blind from retinopathy, caused by diabetes. I saw a retina specialist who told me not too much could be done. He said we could try some shots in the eye but was not sure how much good it would do. He was shocked. I had shot every six months for three years. At each visit My vision improved. I have not had a shot for two years. I do not need glasses except cheaters for reading. A real miracle!
