My First 3 Day Event

A local beach town has a massive July 4th celebration that runs for a solid week.  Arts and Crafts vendors get to set up in the local park for 3 days.  With July 4th being in the middle of the week, it's Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this year.  My first year doing the event.  I've heard great things about the event from other vendors that I know.  I set a goal of 40 puzzles a day and after getting set up this morning and the start of the event at 10am, I sold 34 in the first 3 hours.  I started getting concerned about having enough inventory on hand.

But I didn't have to worry for long, I only sold 9 the remaining 5 hours from 1pm to 6pm.  LOL  As is the case for much of the country we're having a bit of a heat wave here so the crowd dropped off big once the temperatures rose.

So, in the end, day 1 was a success selling 43 puzzles.  I'll be at it again tomorrow.

Day 2 update, came up 1 short of day 1 with 42 puzzles sold.  Almost identical pattern as yesterday... strong start, then when the heat set in the crowd thinned.  Tomorrow is "supposed" to be a little milder, we'll see.  With it being the big holiday day, the crowd should be huge after the parade.  I've set a high goal of 60 puzzles... but my problem right now is inventory, I've run out of a couple of popular dog breeds.

"Do you have an Aussie?"

"Sorry, I've sold out of those, how about a Coonhound instead?"

Hmmmm, nope, that likely won't work.  LOL

I'm getting too old for this stuff...  LOL  3 days of hell is complete.  As a reminder, this was my first time doing this event so I didn't have any basis for what to expect other than hearing from other vendors how great it is.

We were fortunate to have 3 days with no rain at all.  But it sure was hot, same as many places in the country right now.  The venue is a nice, large, wooded park.  However my booth was one of the very few in full sunshine pretty much all day long.  If I hadn't taken a large fan with me I'd have roasted.

Anyway, all went well, I set a goal of 40 puzzles a day (with a stretch goal of 60 for the final day), my final numbers were

Day 1 - 43

Day 2 - 42

Day 3 - 47

I'm consistent if nothing else.  🙂

I'm very happy, especially considering it was Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.  The event always ends on July 4th.  So next year it'll be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and I'll likely sign up for it again since I did well this year.  I'm skipping my weekly farmers market this Saturday as my inventory is depleted... and I'm exhausted too.  I'll enjoy some cutting time the rest of this week while I'm still on vacation from the day job.

Great Sales Scott.  I am into Similar jigsaw pieces.  By any chance can you give me your asking price for say the Dogs?   Danny  :+}

Hi Danny, as I tell my potential customers... "Everything you see is $25, I'm not smart enough to keep track of multiple prices, I have to keep things simple."  😉

Scott, looks like on the whole you had a good 3- day event. Except for that heat. Bum,ear you were out away from additional shade. I was just thinking, when you first started down this road, you indicated you were going to make a donation to your local animal shelter or something from each animal puzzle you sold. (Least wise I seem to recall that but my brain may not be firing on all cylinders and maybe I am confused. 😉) Anyway, if I am remembering correctly, I was just wondering if you cared to share how much you have been able to donate? I am thinking it would be quite a few pennies.

Excellent results! Wish I had local events here like you do. maybe I need to rent a couple months on the same NC beach and set up shop!😁
