munzieb
The Boeing 314 is the 3rd in my cuttings of vintage luxury airliners and this airplane has the most interesting story. PanAm was operating the luxury B314 flying boat Clipper Ships across the long legs of Pacific prior to WWII. The story of the Pacific Clipper on December 7th 1941 is one of courage, ingenuity and perseverance. I have included a PDF file of that amazing adventure along with a route map and pictures of the aircraft. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I enjoyed cutting the B-314 plaque. A movie is in preproduction called the Escape of the Pacific Clipper. BTW, wife says I need to give the planes a rest for a while. Back to boxes and fret work. RabidAlien
PanAm was building a refueling stop on Wake Island when the Japanese invaded. If I recall correctly, around 100 civilian construction workers on the island stayed behind with the Marine garrision to help repair planes, rebuild fortifications, reposition dummy artillery emplacements, and eventually manned some of those defenses..I don't recall if any of them survived the surrender of the garrison/POW camps (wanting to say they were all executed on the island as non-military combatants, aka spies). A PanAm Clipper was the last plane out of the island, carrying civilians.

Scrappile
Great cutting and story, thanks for sharing. In today's world that plane would be so stuffed with seats there would be no luxury to it!
