I have one that is heated that way and it takes some practice to know when it is at the right temp. When I get the right temp, I usually make several brands on some very thin/veneer wood. I then cut them into separate pieces and when needed I can glue them on the back of a piece I have done. Saves some time and it actually looks pretty nice.
