Whenever I've been asked that same question my own response is: "the instant you start to push - the question is answered ....."

I've never changed mine.  Do the teeth go towards you, or on the backside?

I change them when they break. I will keep the old used ones too, they will eventually break. That is their way of telling me I have used them too much.

Works out even for that time when I replace the blade and it breaks as soon as i start sawing.

Being a cheap skate, that was a hard thing to get into my head - it just went against the grain I was brought up with.  I know, blades are cheap.  

Sound silly but it true for me.

Blades are sold in dozens. I thought that was because you should use one a month.
