rdatelle
Hi everyone. Just finished this a short while ago. I want to thank Wayne and Bob for doing two different patterns. I liked the writing on Wayne's and the butterfly on Bobs, so I combined parts of there pattern together. It's about 12 inches long. I have a question for you all. This is basswood and I haven't put a finish on it yet. Not sure what to finish it with. I was thinking on just dipping it in mineral oil. Any suggestions. I giving this to a teacher friend of mine who gave me the idea to do this. She had a picture of the saying on FB and I liked it. I have one more to do. The writing was really tough to do because of the letters being so close together. I did the best I could. P.S. Do you usually put a backing on something like this. Rockytime
That is a beautiful piece. Where do you find basswood with the natural edge?
rdatelle
Les, I got it on Amazon. They have all different sizes.
woodduck
I would put a backer behind it Ralph ,Makes the lettering stand out. I find that I mainly use a black backer on mine . Nice job by the way. Edited August 17, 2018 by woodduck
GPscroller
Beautiful job Ralph. I would put backer on to make letters pop, just like Peter said above, maybe try different colors. Jan usually oils any slabs I have done with Tung or butcher block oil. Jeff
rdatelle
Thanks Jeff and Pete. I wasn't sure if they put backers on slabs. I'll give it a try.

Brianr24
Beautiful job. I use them basswood blanks a lot. I usually oil them. But they will turn a much more yellow color which is ok but just warning you lol

Scrappile
Nice job. I spray my basswood pieces with a clear lacquer. My favorite is "Deft Clear Wood Finish" in Semi-Gloss. It is hard to find in some places so any good lacquer works. I usually put on five or six coats. Oh, and I use a backer.
