John B
G'day all, I noticed in the Q & A Forum there was a bit of discussion regarding pin chucks and holding 1/16th or smaller bits in your drill press. This is my method, A mate actually got me the chuck, however I have collected a few chucks (I always remove the chuck before chucking a US drill ) since and given them to blokes I know. Most 1/4" chucks will grip the small bits. I found a bolt that fitted in the threaded end of the chuck, cut the head of it and that is now the shank that goes into the drill press. A picture is worth a thousand words Cheers John Edited August 30, 2018 by John B spelling NC Scroller, OCtoolguy, kmmcrafts and 3 others 5
kmmcrafts
Great idea.. I ended up buying a small bit chuck from Mikes when I started using the small bits.. My press would hold the 1/16 great.. but when I started using the real small numbered bits it wouldn't.. Where can one get a metric chuck for those metric drill bits.. I have a whole set of metric bits brand new.. but my chuck is standard US OCtoolguy, Scrappile, John B and 1 other
Roberta Moreton
I use the dremel drill press. My Scroll Saw is that n the house. I am not, running outside to the big drill press to drill a few holes. John B and OCtoolguy
loftyhermes
I use a chuck like John but mine came out of an egg beater hand drill and had a plain shaft so I just put that in the drill press chuck. OCtoolguy and John B 1
Scrappile
The pin chuck I purchased just wasn't that good, had some wobble. I chucked that chuck..... in the garbage. I think John's idea would work great. My Jet drill press is a big one like 17" and the chuck closes all the way. The smaller drill press I use to use didn't. Lucky2
I'm lucky I guess, my drill press will hold the small little ting bits. I do own a couple of small chucks for the Dremel tools, but I've never had to use them for scroll work. The drill press I use is made by Sears, it is a large bench top model. Rockytime
I hold bits down to #80 in a Dremel chuck mounted in a drill press. The Dremel chuck is about the most accurate chuck one can buy unless of course one can afford the Albrecht micro chuck on ebay for the measly price of only $179 plus $49 shipping. Get it now! Only 4 left. I hope the $49 shipping is a typo. John B
Jim McDonald
I use a Dremel and if the piece allows, I will use the Dremel drill press attachment. If not, I use the Dremel with a speed square to help guide me. John B
