Iguanadon Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 Landfall as of a few minutes ago. Luckily as a Cat 1 (90mph) instead of the originally forecast Cat 4 (140mph). Plenty of friends that decided to ride it out providing reports and updates via Facebook. Power is just now starting to go out in areas on the island. I still have power at my house according to my monitoring system I have there. But folks are talking about what a long night it was with the constant wind and rain. The storm is going to track towards where we are in SC, but no real danger by the time it reaches us. Just hope to not lose power, that's simply annoying. Roberta Moreton Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 Thanks for the update. We are a couple hours inland. Later today is when we will start seeing more of her. Quote
Iguanadon Posted September 14, 2018 Author Report Posted September 14, 2018 How wild is this, the eye drifted south and completely surrounded my town. Quote
Iguanadon Posted September 14, 2018 Author Report Posted September 14, 2018 And don't lose sight of how large the storm is... RabidAlien 1 Quote
Jim McDonald Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) Go to flightradar24 dot com and look at the lack of aircraft from Georgia into Virginia and then look out to sea as to far out planes are flying. Edited September 14, 2018 by Jim McDonald Quote
Rockytime Posted September 15, 2018 Report Posted September 15, 2018 Devastating! So glad you are safe. Quote
Sycamore67 Posted September 15, 2018 Report Posted September 15, 2018 Iggy may need new maps when this is over and updating what businesses are still open. It probably will be awhile before tourism returns to anywhere near normal. Quote
Foxfold Posted September 15, 2018 Report Posted September 15, 2018 Oh Heavens, I can't imagine the horror. We are fortunate on our little island not to get such things. Stay safe xxx Quote

The storm isn't done yet at home, one more band of very heavy rain to hit this afternoon, but if nothing major comes of that the island will bounce back very quickly. By spring, everything will be right back to normal. Quote
Woodmaster1 Posted September 15, 2018 Report Posted September 15, 2018 Great to hear your safe and sound. You may need to create a new puzzle dedicated to the hurricane. Quote
Iguanadon Posted September 16, 2018 Author Report Posted September 16, 2018 Unfortunately the luck didn't hold. As I've been tracking the storm, I knew the heaviest rains were still to come and they did overnight last night. I received a text from my neighbor at 4am that his garage had 10 inches of rain in it which meant my garage had the same and very likely could have risen enough to go into our house. No way to know anything yet, it's still raining. We have a friend with a key to our house but she'll have her own issues to contend with and I won't ask her to go by our house until I hear from her first. Maybe I can get the neighbor to look in the window once it's safe for them to venture out. So close... the final day of the slow moving storm... Oh, and due to the additional flooding in the entire area, it could mean a few more days before we can even get back to our town as all roads leading into the Wilmington area were already flooded yesterday. wombatie and meflick 2 Quote
