First scrolling since high school woodshop

Hey guys my lady bought me a scroll saw for my birthday so I got straight to work.   Haven't cut since high school (15 years ago) and am absolutely loving it.  Here are my first 2 projects.  Both took about an hour to cut.  Key is maple, and rose is African mahogany.  Neither has a finish yet (waiting on payday lol).  Any suggestions for a good finish technique?  I'm a total noob when it comes to finishwork

Personally, I'd do the key in something dark, walnut or provincial, something like that.  The rose, I'd just finish with BLO (boiled linseed oil) and put a red backing behind it.

You chose 2 difficult project to start out on after 15 years! You ace'd them both! We'll be watching for your next projects coming up.  I can see your love for scrolling. Once the  scroll bug infects you the only cure is keep scrolling

Good idea.  I was considering doing something thin and translucent in the back to give a sort of stained glass look.  Not sure exactly on the material I'd use though

Thank you for the kind words.  I got some big plans for this thing.  Definitely true about the scroll bug.  It's nearly all u think about lol

Check your local artsy-craftsy store (Hobby Lobby or Michaels are big ones here in the US, not sure where you hail from).  Get the colored transparencies, not sure what they call 'em.  That would make a good stained-glass effect!

I'll need to keep track of the patterns I use so I can give credit to the people that put in the hard work of design.  For these I Google image searched and actually taped a piece of paper to the monitor and traced them out after resizing the image on word pad lol.  Weird way of doing it. But it worked like a charm
