My EX-21 is up and running great

Well I finally had time to tweak my new Excalibur EX-21.( I work part-time to much for a guy who just retired ). I centered the blades in the the top and bottom holders ( they were way off ), got the arm parallel to the table, centered the blade in the table opening ( was also way off ) and squared up the blade to the table, had to move the motor a bit. I then leveled the stand and took it for a test ride. Tomorrow I need to re-arrange my workshop and find a permanent home for it. It is running very well. I ordered some Flying Dutchman Blades and they came in today so tomorrow I'll give those blades a try. I also ordered a very nice but pricey LED light from Amazon and tat is working very well. Lights up the work piece nicely. I might have to order a couple more of those those lights for my band saw and lathe.

Now I need to download some practice templates and get practicing. I admire much of the fine scroll work I see on the pages here. I have a good source for some practice wood since I work PT in a lumber dept at a big box store. Retirement is great.

If I was to do it all over again, knowing what I know now...I would order from Seyco. I ordered my saw from HD and the box it came in was pretty beat up. Screws were all over the box ( some were missing ) The saw wasn't bolted to the wood insert inside. The TWO bolts had torn loose. It was only bolted in two places instead of four. I think the price from Seyco is a better deal all around. The table is bigger, it includes a LED light, angle gauge, foot switch and stand. Sounds like a good deal to me. But I have my saw now and its running great so I'm happy.

I'll be lurking around. I have much to learn about scrolling.

Congratulations, on the new saw.  I am so sure you will love it.  I hope you notified the manufacture about the packaging and condition of the saw when you got it.  They need to know, because not many people are as forgiving and patient as you appear to be.  It they don't send a good produce they will be back out of business... and to my mind that includes the packaging.  You should receive a well put together product.

Congratulations on your new saw, you will be pleased. If you would have purchased the Seyco you would be pleased also. The free light with the Seyco not so much. Nice little light but way to small for me. I did attach it to my drill press and occasionally use it there for fine work.  Can I ask what light you purchased from Amazon as mine are getting old.

@scrollingforsanity I have this one, only white.  Stop by sometime and have a look see if you like it.  I really like LED light as opposed to Fluorescent and glass lens as opposed to some kind of plastic.

Terry, glad you are up and running. I want to ask a favor of you. Please keep us all updated on your saw. I had a lengthy debate on Facebook yesterday regarding the Excalibur saws that are being sold by H.D. The person was saying that because they are being made in China and not Taiwan that they are a "clone" and not to be trusted as the ones being made in Taiwan. I told this person that I had heard not a peep about the quality of the saws now being marketed under the name Excalibur. So, please do run your saw through its paces and keep us all abreast of what you find both positive and negative. I truly want to dispel anything that might be negative but at the same time, if these saws aren't up to snuff we need to know about it. Thanks, and good luck with your new love.

@octoolguyI spent quite a bit to time before and after I purchased my Excalibur at the local Woodcraft Store looking over the King Scroll Saws there. The King saws are being made by the original manufacture of the Excalibur according the everything I’ve read and I see no difference in quality between the King and Excalibur saws. They appear identical to me in quality and workmanship. I have run both and they sound and run the same to me. I see no difference at all.

I’ll keep you posted on how it holds up. I expect many good years out of my saw. I have not heard one bad thing about the new Excaliburs.

I don’t put much faith in what I read on Facebook, especially when someone gives there factual opinion on something they don’t even own. Seems to be a lot of that going on anymore. With Home Depot I have a full year to return it for a full refund or replacement and a two year warranty from the manufacture. I’m also a Home Depot employee so I except no problems should my saw have issues. So far it is running quiet and vibration free.

Thanks Terry. I agree with you and this person only had the one thing to say negatively. I had made the suggestion to someone who was looking at another saw and was going to be spending almost as much as what the H/D Excalibur is selling for so I suggested that they just go buy one there. That's when he laid it on me about it being a "clone" and all that stuff. I don't think he meant anything by it but I had to put in my two cents worth. He seems to be a very well known scroller. I checked him out and he does some beautiful work. I think he was just trying to be helpful. But wasn't. That's why I would like to get your first hand experience as you go along. It would be nice to be able to go back and sort of make him eat his words.

@Scrappile I took your advice and decided to write General International Canada an email regarding the condition of the packaging and my EX-21 saw when I received it. I have to admit, I don't think I ever wrote to a company to complain about a product. This was a first. It was pretty long and I let them know how poor the packaging was and the issues I had with the table, missing screws, lack of packing material, etc.

Well yesterday while I was at work ( could have sworn I retired back in June ) I actually received a phone call from a gentlemen at General International who was apologizing for the condition on both the packaging and saw as I received it. He asked what I wanted to do to make it right. He offered to send me the missing screws, new table, new saw whatever I wanted to  do, he would do. I thought that was very customer oriented on his part. The saw it running great so I told him everything was fine now but that I appreciated his call. I'm very happy with the saw and expect many years of use from it.

Thought I'd update you.

Hopefully they will looking to it and improve.  They want to sell their product they need to be informed and take action.  I did it with a can of Valspar paint once.  I would not dry, was tacky even after sitting week to dry.  I notified the company, they called and wanted me to give them the batch number off the can so they could investigate.  I thought I probably would hear not more, but a week or so later I got another call, they had investigated and in fact found something wrong with that batch and did a recall.  They also refunded my money for the paint.  Coarse it didn't make up for the work it took me to remove the paint and repaint.  But they acted like they appreciated my input and at least did something.
