Had the same experience at staples. A woman changed from black to red no problem. Went back with a another pattern  got different person insisted couldn’t be done. Just happened to have the first one still in the car showed her with staples bill. Called manger over showed her how. If I don’t know how to do something I ask an don’t just say can’t be done.

The young folks of today haven't been taught how to do things so they assume it can't be done. SAD!

I almost always convert  patterns to "Red Line" with light grey infill.. I use Paintshop pro, which I have done for years. Text I design in MS Publisher and make it Red line.
When I did my 1st pattern many years ago, the ease it made in cutting was remarkable.
