How you doing Iggy, things back to normal after the storm?  At that price you should buy a back up, RJ

Hey RJ,

I've been sitting here thinking about buying a backup since I saw that sale... don't tempt me.  LOL

Things are coming along.  I have my cutting area set back up and I'm a puzzle zombie again getting ready for an event this Saturday.  Then I have a big 2 day event two weeks later so I'll be busy cutting for the foreseeable future.  Thanks for asking.

Look at Delta. 5 year warranty. Free shipping to Home Depot.

I bought one after my DeWalt died several months ago.

So far so good.

I looked at the Delta when my DW788 died a couple month ago the only problem i see is it doesn't stay in the set speed. It's not as aggressive as the DW788 which is a +

and i do like the arm staying up . I will see  how it holds up compared with the DW788 which  was 3 major breakdowns in a 4 year period.. and it was a $100 chiefer and I have 6; month with no interest

IKE.

Back before I bought my first Hawk... I was looking pretty seriously at the Delta.. until that Hawk showed up for $100 I probably would have bought the Delta.. They are a lot cheaper and basically the same machine..

I'M Going to set my sights on a Hawk now Kevin. But, not until I find a deal like you did. I'm going to be studying all the Hawk specs so I can go in armed with knowledge. I'm not adverse to one of the older ones with the pulley/belt system either. I would need to know what models and dates to watch for so I don't get something too old.

Ray, they all have their good and bad points.. I like the DeWalt's Ex's etc etc.. I didn't like my Hawk for the longest time.. almost sold them.. but I kept on Trying to get used to them... why? because they are very well built... easy repairs / maintenance etc.. Being a production cutter all the saws I've had perform well and is more of a comfort zone opinion for me on the saws.. The two biggest points about the Hawk that sets it above the other ( for me ) is.. The blade mounting system is a no brainer once you get the hang of it.. Once the saw is set up correctly.. the blade mounts in the clamp the same every time.. no fuss no muss LOL.. Once you have the upper arm set to the height where it bottoms out every time the same place on the blade.. In the DeWalt Ex type saws.. one flaw that annoys me ( production cutting ) is the fact that you have to always.. lift the arm up.. Not a BIG deal but do that production cutting for 6-8 hours :) I have the Jim Dandy easy lift on my dewalt.. which is awesome.. but there is no such thing that I am aware of for the EX.. In the DeWalt / Ex type saws.. the blade can be moved up or down in the clamp ( ie every time you change the blade that blade could be mounted differently ).. not a big deal really.. One thing on the Ex / dewalt is there is slop in the upper lower arm and blade clamps.. so you have a learning curve to get the same tension every time.. for me.. I have to push down on the upper arm when lowering it at the same time as clamping the blade to get the tension good.. again.. not a big deal and comes natural at some point.. but again.. doing it production cutting for a while.. It's only milliseconds.. but why waist time at all if you don't have to..

The Hawk clamp has a bottom out in the lower clamp.. mount the blade.. the upper arm has a stop and once adjusted correctly that blade is mounted the same way every time... that tension is no guesswork every time.. Once you remove the tension and release the blade on the Hawk.. the upper arm is spring loaded and moves up out of the way on it's own..  Break a blade.. the upper arm pops up and says.. put in a new blade NOW.. lets get moving LOL

Maintaining the saw is a 30 second job once a week for me.. but then.. not really any maintaining to a DeWalt / Ex unless you want to spend a half day taking it apart or just run it until you have an issue..

These are in no way a huge deal.. especially to a hobbyist cutter.. but once you get used to the Hawks system.. and go back to the other saws.. you figure out how spoiled the Hawk really did make you. LOL

I'm betting it'll be on sale again around the holidays.. but maybe not as good a deal.. glad you was able to get one at that price.. Do you still have that Hawk?

Yes, still have the Hawk.  I had a local non-profit organization that said they'd like to have it, I was going to donate it, but now I can't get them to respond to my emails about arranging for them to pick it up... Can't even give away a $1400 saw.  LOL

Could always sell raffle tickets to win it.. sell enough tickets to pay for the saw and maybe a little extra for the time and hassle you went through.. say $10 a ticket and once X amount of tickets sold is when the drawing will be.... LOL that way you can get your money back.. and some lucky winner will get a saw for $10 well unless they buy several tickets.. .. I've done some things like that in the past to sell something that otherwise wouldn't sell for the amount I had invested... I'm sure many folks would gladly pay a shipper the money to package and ship the saw to them.. that is if you have a local packmail or pakNship type store where you can just drop it off and they handle the rest..

See, I was born to be a wheeler dealer sales type person.. it's in my DNA I think.. LOL

I like the way you think Kevin. I'm sure you have Scott thinking now.
