Oldmansbike
A neighbor of mine is moving and doesn't want to move all his woodworking stuff so he is selling it. I went there to look at his bandsaw and noticed he had a Dremel scrollsaw. It's the old 2 speed model. So I bought the bandsaw and scrollsaw. Anything to look out for on the Dremel? I haven't tried it out yet but at 25 dollars I thought I would try it out. The only scrollsaw I have ever used is my RBI Hawk so this will be a learning experience. ike
My first Dremel saw took 4' pined blades I used it a couple years before I upgraded to a Sears IKE OCtoolguy
GrampaJim
One of the hazards we all face - tools know we like them and will follow us home. OCtoolguy
Oldmansbike
I had a little time this afternoon so I played with it. It doesn't vibrate as bad as I thought it would and it will probably be better when I mount it solid. Pin end blades are easy to change but you can't cut any small fret work with them. I tried the adaptor for pin less blades it worked okay but you can't do it very fast. To set the blade tension worked okay but again not very fast. My opinion is if you were not in a hurry and just going to cut outside shapes and no small fret work it would be a decent saw. kmmcrafts and OCtoolguy 1
kmmcrafts
My first NEW saw was the Dremel 1800 that had the disc sander on the one side and a spot to hook up a Dremel flex shaft.. Well maybe I should rephrase that.. my first new saw that I kept and used.. LOL.. before that saw I bought a craftsman.. it vibrated off the counter.. and the variable speed didn't work.. returned it and ordered the Refurbished dremel.. which I used for a couple years.. good saw.. but not built too well.. I had to replace the back connecting rod in it twice in those two years and was bad again when I finally bought my DeWalt.. Woodmaster1
Saws follow you home when you leave a trail of wood scraps to your house. OCtoolguy and John B
bandaideman
Dale that sounds like the first saw I had, Dremel 2 speed slow and fast, pin end. Back then 20 years ago was a rough time for me. The scrolling helped me through that. I found all the things you mentioned were an issue but kept me going during the depressive time. Now with a Dewalt and Ex 21, bandsaw. table saw Lathe and router table with routers no looking back. Was the best investment I made and was better than any therapy or medication I could take. Even just cutting outside shapes etc. there is something about being alone with the saw and the wood and creating something you can sand paint and say I did that. I past it on to my son in law and he has been bitten by the wood bug. He is not a scroller but has made home improvements with beds, dressers and night stands.
