Macman Posted October 23, 2018 Report Posted October 23, 2018 (edited) Had an afternoon in the shed having a go at letters. Still using pinned blades on my Aldi saw while I await delivery of my Hegner. Had company from my wee helper Edited October 23, 2018 by Macman Typo John B, Sam777, frankorona and 4 others 7 Quote
Macman Posted October 23, 2018 Author Report Posted October 23, 2018 Thanks, I have quite a few transition marks on the wood to take out. I lack the skill and confidence to turn the wood quickly and keep feeding. John B 1 Quote
Foxfold Posted October 23, 2018 Report Posted October 23, 2018 Nice work. I too have a pin end machine from Aldi, I love it and wouldn't part with it for the world. I also have an Axminster Trade Series 18 which I use for more intricate work, but there's lots you can do on the pin end. xx RabidAlien and Macman 2 Quote

meflick Posted October 23, 2018 Report Posted October 23, 2018 Beautiful Helper! Nice job on the project. Lettering still scares me I am afraid. Macman 1 Quote

Dave Monk Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 Great job. You will love your Hegner. Macman 1 Quote
Rockytime Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 You've done a great job. I don't think you will have any trouble with letters. BTW who is the little cutie? Macman 1 Quote
wombatie Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 What a beautiful little helper. Lettering is harder than cutting portraits but it looks as if you did a good job. Marg Macman and John B 2 Quote
Macman Posted October 24, 2018 Author Report Posted October 24, 2018 My little helper is Jessica. She is just over four years old and is such a switched on cookie. Having her later on in life meant I am keen on spending as much time as possible to teach her that life is fun and she can do anything she sets her mind too. No doubt in my mind that she will be scrolling soon. Her mum thinks different John B 1 Quote
RabidAlien Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 I've bent many a pin-ended blade trying to make tight turns. One of these days I'll scrape together enough allowance (and my wife will approve) to get an Excalibur. Until then...I'm finding that the only limiting factor for cutting with pin-ends is the size of the pilot hole. You can still do some pretty gnarly stuff with them!! Awesome cut! Macman 1 Quote
rdatelle Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 Looks great for a pin blade. They say practice makes perfect. You'll get the hang of turning faster with the new saw, that's for sure. John B and Macman 2 Quote
bobscroll Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 I think you are doing fine Andy, Each project will give you more confidence as you go on! Thank you for posting, Bob Macman 1 Quote
Foxfold Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 (edited) You can, with a little ingenuity, do a lot on a pin end saw, I did my first WordArt pattern, among other things, on my pin end, Sorry, pushed the wrong button and don't know how to delete this answer as it's not what I wanted to do. But saying that, these were done on my little machine. Brenda x Edited October 24, 2018 by Foxfold loftyhermes, amazingkevin, Macman and 2 others 5 Quote

As DW said tight turns etc will come with practice. Once you get your new saw, get yourself a gross of various sized blades, find a practice pattern and go to it. Macman 1 Quote
