I think you will be happy with that. I have a Jet which looks just like this Wen. You probably already have it up but 2 people can get It up easier than one. I have had the Jet for years enough I do not remember how many years it has been. It has filtered a lot of dust. the first thing that gave up was the remote which was not a big issue I could pull cord and turn on and switch speed the same with chain pull. then it just plan stopped turning on but was able to rig it up so that the high speed worked but the other speeds where gone. The bottom line is it is still running. Enjoy

Well, I got it up where I wanted it to go but I wasn't able to use the chains and hooks that came with it without doing a lot of rigging. So, I just raised the shelf that was already there and put it up on a shelf. It will be just fine up there. My shop is so small that it should turn the air over quite a few times while I'm in there working and I'll set the timer for after I leave the shop. It is fairly quiet on the low speed but gets louder as the speed increases. Still not overly loud. I think it will serve me well.

I agree with Al... The instructions with mine say to keep it a minimum of 3 feet from any obstruction for best performance.. including shop lights, garage doors etc.. I realize that would be almost impossible to do in a very small shop, LOL but I think where you have it placed is really restricting its use considerably.

I wanted to put mine right in the corner where all my saws are.. but then it's just in the corner with a wall on two sides.. so figured that probably wouldn't work out too well.. seems to be doing great where it's at..

Ray not trying to be a smart aleck but it looks more like you are storing your unit than using it.   I think if you chain hung the unit where you can get better air circulation it would operate much more efficiently.   Just sayin.

Stoney, I agree with what you say but the problem I have is the ceiling of my shop is actually a part of the awning system on my mobile home. I have added shelves so that my wife can store her seasonal stuff. The shelves are high enough to do that but they are also low enough that they have become a hindrance. I may figure out another way in the future but for now, this will have to suffice. I probably will bring it closer to my main saw and if I decided to sell the Dewalt, I'll relocate the EX and then hang the air filter in a different place. Thanks for your input.

I agree you need to at least have it facing the open, it will not be as efficient if not install properly. Here are some pictures of my setup, I have a small shop also.

I wish I had a ceiling like you do. I'll have to post a couple of pics so you can see what I'm dealing with.

Yeah, I see your problem.. I was going to say.. mine has feet on it... and can set on a bench or floor.. not quite sure how well one would work down low.. but in looking at your work area... doesn't appear to be much floor space either..

BTW, I have the same drill press I think.. sure looks like mine anyway.. I think it's a 8 or 10" Delta? Gave $2 for mine at a old tractor swap meet about 10 years ago.. I didn't get a chuck with it but my friend had one he gave me.. Mines pretty well worn and has plenty of run out.. but does what I need for the most part..

Once I get all my equipment into the places that they will remain, I will get serious about where to put the air filter. I figure that even up there in the corner it's still going to be a lot better than not at all. I can already tell the difference.
That little drill press is a Delta 8" that I bought in like new condition on Ebay for $45. It's got it's "shortcomings" but it will have to do until something better comes along. I don't want to give up any more space than what it takes up now.

I'm seriously thinking of asking Santa for one!  How often do you change the filters?   How do you tell that it needs to be changed? Do you clean the filters or just replace them?

Thanks

Too soon to be able to answer your questions Christian. But, maybe someone else who has one can tell you. I just got mine and haven't used it enough to know so I will be interested in knowing too. Amazon has the best price on one.

I think that how often you need to change the filters will vary a great deal from one shop to the next.. some folks may not have any kind of dust collection at the tool source while other may have and not have much dust floating around..

To answer your question though.. I've had mine up just a couple of weeks.. and I noticed the outer filter is getting quite dirty already... I work quite a lot out in the shop too though.. and i don't really have much of a dust collection system set up yet so it might need cleaned more often that other shops would need to..

I believe you can just take the outer filter out and tap the loose dust off it or blow it out with a air hose ( outside of coarse otherwise whats the purpose of having the filtration ).. or maybe use a vacuum on it..I've read where people have been 10 years on that inner filter.. and I believe you can just wash those.. I think mine is a cloth type filter..

I had mine for over two years now, I cleaned the outside filter at least once a month with my shopvac but now it is time to order some replacements, got them from eBay at a very good price. The inside cloth filter is still very clean so will leave it alone.

Here's a couple of pics that I hope will show why I can't hang it out in the middle of the room. I'm going to move it but so far, I don't know where I want it or can put it. I'll figure it out.

Ray In looking at your ceiling can't you just lay two 2 x 4's to each side on the shelf's and just set the Wen unit on top in the middle of the room ? Just a quick observation?

If I do anything in the middle, it cuts down on my access to the overhead storage. The pictures don't really do justice to how small the area is. I'm thinking about raising the overhead shelving up a foot or so closer to the awning roof. I no longer need all that storage that we once did. My wife has parted company with all her seasonal decor. I've even given some thought to doing away with one of the two shelves completely but they do come in handy from time to time. I'll figure something out. I know where I have the unit right now is not the best location. But, I wanted to get it up and start using it asap. Now, it's up there and I can get on to the next phase. Thanks for your input though.
