Foxfold
bobscroll very kindly did this pattern for me, before I got my new saw, so it's done on my little PinEnd machine. I love it, but a quick question for those with more knowledge than me.... I've considered putting a red/pink backer on it , or a nice 'wood coloured' backer, now does this type of work usually have a backer on it or do you leave it as it is ? My plan is to have it in my little work area so that I see it every day. To bobscroll, my grateful thanks to you for doing this for me, and to all who have expanded my scrolling know how. It's opened up a whole new world to me and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. xxxx Brenda xxx RabidAlien, Charlie E, amazingkevin and 3 others
loftyhermes
Most of my work of this nature has a black backer but it's up to you whether you have a backer and what colour to use. I do like the red though. jollyred and Foxfold
Scrappile
Which ever you choose, can't you just cut the backer a little larger than the piece and glue the piece to it. That would give you the border. Foxfold

To be honest, now you've said that, when I look at the photo now, I think I'll do a full square backer that's bigger than the piece, as you say it would give it a border and finish if off nicely , Thank you xxx amazingkevin

rjR
Very nicely done. I like the look with just the darker wood background, so my suggestion is go with something just stained to a dark wood ! amazingkevin
JAC1961
Beautiful work. If it were me, I'd use a color background. Makes it 'pop' more. amazingkevin
rdatelle
That looks great. I use a backer most of the time and mostly black. You could use two colors on that one if you like. Red on top and black on scrolling lady or visa versa. amazingkevin
John B
Very nice Brenda, I always use a backer. Most I paint black, however when I want a coloured one I use felt.

RabidAlien
Probably all boils down to personal taste. I usually use a 1/8" BB ply for a backer, stained or oiled to contrast the pattern (if I BLO the pattern, I stain the backer Dark Walnut, and vice versa). The contrast helps the pattern pop. A Facebook friend suggested getting some opaque acrylic sheet for the backer, and running a strip of LED's around the edge with either a battery or a power cord to REALLY fire up the pattern. I have one that I've got planned for a bigger/better saw that will work perfectly for this, and can't wait to try it out.
wombatie
Firstly let me say that you did a terrific cutting job, well done. Secondly I love the red backer. Now the rest is up to you, it's what you will be happiest with. Marg
