Scroll Saw on Battery Inverter

Thinking about doing demos at some craft shows. I've seen where you can use a deep cycle battery and a inverter and run quite a bit of time. Question is the type of inverter. Can anyone recommend a brand or type to get. Looking on Amazon and there are a few hundred and vary greatly in price.

I have a 1200 watt inverter  that I bought from Harbor freight You can use small tools on it I never tried a Scroll saw . This is a small inverter and they sell larger ones for larger tools

Check the rating plate on your motor and add 50% to the rated wattage.  Motors generally surge about half the rating (running draw) as they start.

If you have a choice that is a few dollars more for something even larger--get it.  The less expensive inverters don't always give a good sine wave and electronics like speed boards get a little sensitive about square and sawtooth waves.

I have used an  inverter and battery to run my scroll saw along with a fan to blow the dust away.  Works fine and runs for hours.  I do my sales alone and find that shoppers only watch me run the saw a short while, less than a minute, and they move on to look at, and purchase, my product.  I then have to leave the saw and attend to business.  I have stopped bringing my saw to sales.  If I had someone to do the selling I might try it again.  I was disappointed by the lack of true interest on how I make things using my saw though.  I bought my inverter at a local battery store.  They sized it for my needs.

I find it incredible that people would not fine scrolling fascinating. I guess I must be different. I'm always interested in how things are accomplished.

Jim would you mind sending over information about your inverter is it a Pure Sine Wave type?

Mine is an Energizer 500 watt Power inverter.  Max output of 4 amps. Model EN500.

Input 12 volts DC 54A

That is all I know about it.

I would be worried about the mess.  Especially in an inside venue.

I've been bringing my scroll saw to a local venue for 4 years now and in the beginning, I was concerned about the dust and noise but the event coordinator told me to not worry about it because I was helping to draw crowds in and keep the crowds inside.  She actually told me that she would take care of the clean up herself.  Year after year , I get returning customers because I stood out of the crowd.  Thank you Jim for the info on the inverter so I can bring my saw on outdoors venues

Me too Les. That's exactly how I got into this hobby. I was at the Orange County Fair and the OC Woodworkers had a display set up. One person in particular had a homemade foot operated saw set up to do marquetry. I was fascinated not only by what he was doing but also by his saw. His saw was a very long board that he pumped with his foot and could do a stroke at a time with it. Anyway, I talked with him for an hour and then took his class. I bought a used saw and the rest is history. I'm still very new to the hobby but I try hard to stretch myself on what I do.
