orangeman
Look at the Delta for less $$. My DeWalt 788 died 6 months ago and I bought a Delta from Home Depot. 5 year warranty. So far so good! bb lawson56 and SCROLLSAW703
JAC1961
Keep an eye on Craigslist too. Sometime you can find great deals on barely used saws. I recently saw a Hawk that looked brand new for $450. Good luck! SCROLLSAW703 and lawson56

OCtoolguy
Check Grizzly. They were selling the Dewalt with stand and light for $399.99 and free shipping. Can't beat that deal. amazingkevin, Roberta Moreton, SCROLLSAW703 and 1 other
GrampaJim
Craigslist can be good. If you are on FacePlant Facebook, check out Marketplace - like Craigslist, but you can see who is selling because they have a FB page. Look for a Hawk or Hegner (I love my Hegner). lawson56, OCtoolguy, SCROLLSAW703 and 1 other

I also have a Porter Cable. It is now making some amazing sounds, I can't even explain. I have fixed, poked, rebuilt, transformed, and prayed a lot. But now I really feel its time to upgrade. I used to refer to it as my Full Blown Porta Cable. I just have to hope it holds together until this seasons Christmas gifts are finished. Three more to go. Then NEW SAW TIME. Its been a long time coming. Keep us updated on what your choice is. I am leaning towards the 788. So much information on keeping up with that saw, and rebuilding etc. I like to tinker, so I feel that will be my next toy. lawson56 and OCtoolguy

OCtoolguy
I wouldn't suggest buying Delta. See my latest posting. The company can't be trusted to supply replacement parts when you need them. So far, I have never had a problem finding/buying parts for any of my Dewalt tools. Just a heads up and my personal opinion. lawson56

Just a heads up and my personal opinion. I agree.. years ago on the forums I was on there was some folks buying the Delta P-20 and the Q3 scroll saws and then Delta went belly up or was bought out and they stopped making scroll saws.. there was at least a half dozen folks that had issues with the saws still under warranty and the parts was no longer available.. Only thing Delta offered was a discount on a few new saws still left in circulation which was the lower end 16" saw they had a lot of trouble with.. .. so in my mind.. the 5 year warranty on their current new saw is probably about as good as how far you can pick the saw up and throw it... That all said though.. I'm pretty sure Delta was bought out by some other company and this may not be the case any more?? I'd still be cautious with their tools though.. unless you're getting a real bargain like free or close to that with no expectations.. I found a great looking Rockwell 14" bandsaw model number 28-200 for $350. I'm very tempted. I personally not a big fan of Delta as a company.. but that said. I thought this might be a decent deal. and these saws are so close to being a DeWalt than I imagine most of the main wear points are probably the same parts.. Anyway.. just thought you might be interested in this... seems like a decent deal.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Delta-Power-Tools-40-694-20-In-Variable-Speed-Scroll-Saw/123488881835?epid=2254908595&hash=item1cc082ccab:g:0zcAAOSwmT1b6-Ev:sc:FedExHomeDelivery!49021!US!-1:rk:55:pf:0 OCtoolguy

I bought mine (including light & stand) from Grizzly, also, back in June. I paid a bit more ($499.99 + shipping), but I still came out better than if I had dealt with a local outlet - which was selling just the base unit for $500+tax. I love my 788, even though it's presently giving me a hurdle, or two. But I'm sure that those issues can be easily rectified. I only wished that I hadn't confused the Dewalt with its Delta cousin. I had thought that the Dewalt was the one which came with the 5yr warranty. Oh well . OCtoolguy
Woodmaster1
If you need parts for the new Delta scroll saw they are available. You are right the bearings are the same as Dewalt 788 and if the blade holder wears out pegas is a great upgrade. I have the Delta and the only issue was tightening the motor mount.
