Macman
I quickly reached a plateau with my Scrollsaw efforts after the first few weeks. However for a brief few minutes this afternoon I realised I was holding the wood down without using the death grip I had developed and the blade was cutting the wood without being deflected. As soon as I gave it conscious thought it went back to normal I spend ages looking through all the threads that you guys post of your outstanding work and usually think that there will be no way I could be as good as you. However feeling that wee bit more encouraged today. I still cut awkwardly and lose the line often but the positive from today’s cut from a Travis pattern was that I was confident to spin the wood at the right angles meflick, OCtoolguy, tomsteve and 2 others

scrollerpete
The more time you spend on the saw the better you will be, there is no other way to learn, practice, pratice and more practice, you will get there. OCtoolguy
It looks great. You have nothing to worry about. Practice. My biggest problem to overcome was if I went off line I got all worried. I have to keep telling myself that once the pattern is removed, nobody but me will ever know. Unless of course, it's a really bad error. Then it becomes "designer" firewood. Macman
JTTHECLOCKMAN
It all will become so easy you could do it in your sleep. Even if you walk away for awhile it comes right back to you. You start to learn all the little tricks too and as Ray said take the pattern off and no one sees the lines any more. Looking good. kmmcrafts
Something I use to do when I first started was.. If I got off the line.. I did everything I could to bring it right back on the line.. but after awhile of doing this I figured out that if I got off the line a bit.. just gradually move it back to the line.. makes it much less noticeable.. especially to those that may know the pattern design... You're doing good.. practice makes perfect... I've been sawing for 12 or so years... still practicing.. as I've never had a perfect cut yet, LOL... I've also been told i am my own worst critic, LOL... most important... just have fun with it.. Tomanydogs
Looks great Macman. Love the “death grip” comment, I also find myself doing this when I use flat blades. But I’m having fun practicing as I’m sure you are too. Edited November 20, 2018 by Tomanydogs OCtoolguy and Macman
