New Hegner Multi-Max 22v on its way!

Some of you might remember my post about the used RBI Hawk 220vs I purchased a couple weeks ago.  I had some initial issues with vibration and side to side blade travel that I eventually fixed.  Well, after fixing those initial issues, I ran into more problems.  The Hawk's motor was getting super hot and I was getting a lot of front/back travel with each blade stroke (older hawk that did not have adjustments to fix this).  I called Bushton Manufacturing and they said the Motor I had on my Hawk was notorious for failing.   Instead of throwing more time and money at the Hawk, I decided to put an end to my grief by purchasing a new saw. My initial plan was to purchase a new Hawk BM-26; however, after reading some poor reviews of that saw, I decided to go another direction.  I eventually landed on the Hegner Multi-Max 22v.  I ordered the saw last Friday and it should be shipping out soon.

All that being said, since I'm new to Hegner, I was wondering if we had any Hegner owners that could give me some pointers to help minimize the learning curve.  Any input/conversation is welcome.

Congrats on the new Hegner. I just sold my 18" Hegner. I didn't like the way it ran but that is another story. Once you get yours and get it set up, you'll probably love it. I would buy another one if the right deal came along. Mine had a speed issue. Anyway, there are many folks here that can help you out if you have problems but more than likely you won't. It's just a matter of getting used to it if you had a different type of saw. The Hegner is a great saw. You'll love it.

Congrats

I hope you like your new saw. I have a 1995 Hegner I bought at only a year old. I have replaced a couple parts but it runs like a top all the time. I use the Pegas blades and I don't have any problem with blade breakage. Oil your arm bearings on both sides with light oil now and then.

Good luck

Bill

Strange, I never ran into that problem.

My Hegner may have been damaged in shipping. The table is split into 2 parts by design for blade insert. The left and right of the table are not aligned properly. Discovered too late to send back.

I will Never, ever buy a saw that has to be shipped via UPS or fedEx to my home.

Already had to send one Hawk back because of vibration. Shipping issue? who knows.

Frisch2481,

First of all congratulations on the  new saw , it will be a big learning curve if you have never used a Hegner before, The first thing I will say to you is read the manual study it and practice with it , a fellow that I took carving blessing from his famous words were PRACTIC,PRACTICE,PRACTICE. I still set down and practice to the day, I'll take a square make straight lines, cut circles practice, PRACTICE. I have owned 2 hegner, 2 RBI HAWK ULTRAS, they are both great  machines, I LEARNED on the RBI And I just feel more at ease on it.The Hegner is a great machines also and it will take work to learn how to use it effectively just like the RBI. DO not bye any means get upset or disgusted with your work, if first you fail try again. There is very little maintenance  on the Hegner or the RBI Oil your arm bearing every so often just don't get carried away with the oil. Start on something easy, keep your table waxed. Enjoy!!

Well, I pulled the trigger on that used Hegner that I posted about the other day. It's a $150 gamble but I think it's going to work out ok. I spoke with the seller. He is a retired guy like me and said that he thought he was going to like scrolling but hasn't done much with it. He did invest in the quick release arm and the knurled knob so that part is good. The only part that will need replacing is the bellows. At $42 plus shipping, I might just go with an aquarium pump. Anyway, I'm going to run up there and pick it up next week. It's about a 4 hour round trip if the traffic isn't too heavy. Wish me luck.

Had a Hegner and still do before my RBI saws and I have to say I must be the luckiest guy on the planet because not one problem with the Hegner or RBI saws. No blade breakage no slipping or vibration. Beautiful professional saws. Now the Dewalt is another story. Yes I got a deal I could not pass up on but if i were to buy today I would pass up on it. Not my cup of tea blade usage wise. Never get the blade in the same spot all the time thus the constant tension changes. Hegner and RBI same all the time. Less stress on the blade.

I learned something today looking at the Hegner site, this saw existed. Now that is some saw and price.

Iggy needs this saw.😀

Evidently that link did not work. This one should. I suggest going to Advance Machinery site and reading the tech info on your saw.

Again Ray I hate telling people what to do so I will tell you my experience and recommend that you forgo the aquarium pump and buy the bellow. I tried an aquarium pump back when I had my first saw which was a 2 speed Dremel saw. It did not work well. Take a look at the bellow maybe a little silicone can seal a leak if not cracked too bad. Buying it would be money well spent and you will get your money back providing the saw runs well. Make sure you get the key for the blades and any extra holders.

Ray, I also agree with not going the aquarium pump.. The older Delta never had all that great of a bellow and many people suggested the pump... I was disappointed with it as well...

The Hawk has the strongest air blower I've ever seen.. thinking the Hegner is the same? anyway.. I think one could almost air a tire up with the Hawk, 😂.. The air blowing out of the hose on my Hawks is loudest part of the saw.. well maybe when you actually are cutting then you don't hear it so much but just running it without cutting.. you just hear the puff puff puff on every blade stroke.. Not like the DeWalts and that where you gotta aim the tube fairly well.. Think that is why so many of the older Hawks just have the tubing cut off and not the flex line stuff.. it only needs to aim down at the table anywhere.. LOL

Hegners bellows looks pretty stout.. I'm almost betting it's better than the Hawk one...

As was said above, read the manual.  The best tip I can give is

1. its real easy to overtighten the blade clamps - so don't! 😊

2. Watch the YouTube videos made be Advance Machinery a couple of time each.

You are gonna love it.

Thanks JT. The ad tells right up front that it needs a bellows and the picture shows it to be non-existent. I'll check to see if he has it though. I'll be getting quite a bit of extra stuff too. He even offered me the stool that he used. I'll take it of course. What did you find about the pump that you didn't like?

not enough air and had to get a larger hose and that did not help much. For me a waste of money because back in the day that was the recommended fix mentioned on alot on forums. Now I would just get the bellow. As I said selling feature if you do not like it.

Yeah, you're probably right. I just hate the over the top cost of everything from them. I'm even trying to think in my mind who/what/where I might come up with a similar thing to replace the Hegner bellows. I'm wondering if some sort of a shock cover or something like that might work. In the end, I'll probably just order the one from Advanced.
