How's the Hegner you checked out?

Well, something came up and I wasn't able to get up to pick it up. I contacted the seller the best way I had but so far he hasn't responded. I think he's pissed at me and thinks I'm a flake. But, family does come first and it was a life threatening situation that had to be taken care of. I have emailed the seller twice but he isn't replying so I have to assume that it's not going to happen. But, I have a saying that everything happens for a reason so maybe I dodged a bullet. Who knows? Oh well................

Fisch 2481 The new saw sure is sweet looking and will still look like that 20 years from now. Although it may have some dust on it by then.

The Hegner's I have used only had two issues that I did not like. One was the dust blower blew the dust right up your snoot. That has finally been addressed. The other is that it does not top feed, and with the current clamps to make it a top feeder would require some changes.

Rolf, you got me to thinking. What if a person just reversed the blade holders on a Hegner and put the quick clamp under the table and put the other end above the table? Would it be that difficult to clamp the blade "blind" under the table? Just thinking out loud here. Or, maybe put quick clamps on both ends? There has to be a way to improve the Hegner blade clamping hassle.

The top clamp, the one with the thumb screw or the Quickclamp, has a recess in it that a screw, on the top clamp holder screws down into and holds the clamp in place.  The clamps for the bottom that does not have this nor does the bottom clamp holder have the screw.  The top clamp and this screw, for me at least, are part of the tensioning.  Anyway, you cannot just switch the steel camps, they are not the same. It would be more complicated than that.  Not saying it couldn't be done somehow, just saying it is not just a switch of the clamps.

I'm sorry to hear that Ray - maybe they seller is busy and hasn't had a chance to respond.  Either way, if you keep your eyes opened, I'm sure you'll find another great deal.

Thanks Rolf,

My previous Scroll Saw (24" Delta from 1946) was bottom feed so I am used to that method.  The Hegner allows more access to the bottom of the work piece so its even easier that I'm used to.  I'm loving the new saw so far, I'll pose some pictures of a few projects once I finish them up.

Thanks again,

Dan

Thanks Fisch, I think all things happen for a reason so there may have been something wrong with that saw. The thing that I was most concerned about is/was there are 6 or 7 other Hegners for sale right now on C/L from a low of $150 (my saw) all the way up to $1800. He's dreaming. Anyway, why was this one so cheap as to compared to all the others. I'd have priced it in the $3-400 range. It had the upgraded quick release arm, the quick clamp and was a variable speed. It did need a bellows but that's only $42 plus shipping. Anyway, like you said, another one will come along. Not the $1800 one though. I can't believe he thinks he will get more than a brand new one. Geesh!
