Compound ornament blade question?

Just wondering If anyone has tried the Pegas Super Skip blades for cutting compound ornaments.   I know Flying Dutchman polar blades are used by many but just curious.

After reading a lot on the subject, I went ahead and ordered a gross of those FD Polar blades yesterday in 3 sizes. I hope they are and do what everybody says they will. It makes sense to have a blade with the capability to clear the dust out of the kerf as fast as possible. I have been using a reverse tooth blade with pretty good success but now that I think back, it was a problem. I hope there are a lot of answers to your post.

Just bumping this back up because I would really like to know what anyone thinks about Pegas skip tooth blades without reverse teeth.   I have to order some blades and I'm undecided on which ones more FD polars or Pegas skip tooth.

Hey Al, afraid I can't really answer your question because I have not used them but wanted to suggest that if you are ordering some blades, why not order what you are used to and like, and then get a small quantity of the Pegas super skip to try out.  Then decide if YOU like them better.  I say this because I have learned here in regards to blades, what some people like, others don't.  True in most things in life. That's what makes the world go around. 😉  Once you figure it out, you can let others know.  I don't recall having seen anyone post specifically about those blades previously.

Thank you Melanie , I will probably do as you suggest.   I looked at the Pegas super skip and thought the design of the blade with extra space between the teeth looked like it might work well in thicker hardwoods I use for compound ornaments.   I am no blade expert by any means and thought maybe someone here had tried them.   I have been using the Pegas modified geometry for a while and really like them for other purposes.   Thanks again for your reply.

This brings up a question for me. On thicker woods (1" pine mostly) where I don't have detail to cut I use Olson skip tooth blades and Polar blades. I had never seen a Pegas super skip so are they more  aggressive or less than the blades I currently use? I would probably order them to try.

I don't know If they would be more aggressive than your Olson skip tooth blades but Pegas does advertise them as an aggressive blade.  I have to believe they would be more aggressive than FD polar blades simply by the difference in the blade design.   Maybe someone will chime in with more info.

Hi Al, I just ran across my spec sheets on Pegas and FD blades. Pegas has super skip blade.

FD Polar #1 - 26 tpi

FD XL #1 - 24 tpi

Pegas Skip #1 - 22.7 tpi

Pegas Super Skip #1 - 17.2 tpi

I would check my Olson chart but it is in the shop and it is cold outside, 23 degrees and about 50 in the shop.

Huge differences. Now I realize how important these charts are when trying to compare blades. The manufacturers do us a great service with these charts.

Les, I was aware that the Pegas super skip blades have less teeth per inch than FD polar blades simply because the Pegas super skips are just that, a skip tooth blade.   What I was trying to find out is what anyone's opinion is that has tried them.  I was curious if the resulting cut was smooth enough for cutting compound ornaments.   Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I just received an gross of assorted blades but it did not include the Pegas super skips. I'll have to place another order. I did not know about them when I placed my order. I don't think I have enough blades. I counted 48 different today. Most of which I will never use. In a few years more than likely landfill.
