Popular Post neal560sl
I have been cutting out Christmas ornaments for the past 4 years. Started out the first year on a Shopsmith jigsaw, then picked up a Delta 40-560. Then this summer found a Delta 40-540 vs and thought I would be happy with that. It does work pretty well as it has cut out most of this years ornaments including 9 of these ornaments for the grand children and their parents. This is a Steve Good pattern of a door ornament that I downsized for a tree ornament. heppnerguy
WOW some delicate scrolling. Those letters and leaves are pretty dang small and everything is so perfectly executed. Dick heppnerguy RabidAlien
neal560sl
Thanks Dick. The first one I cut out took me 3 hours to cut and 15 minutes just to drill the 96 holes needed. I really do like the looks of them done though.

meflick
Beautiful and delicate. More talent and patience then me to do that. thanks for showing. Looks like you need to spend more time at the Saw if you only do this seasonally to do your ornaments,
flarud
Very nice! But I only counted 94 holes! LOL That is a big factor on what I decide to cut out,, how many holes do I need to drill. meflick

neal560sl
This is one I did last year, again one of Steve Good's patterns of a door wreath downsized to be a tree ornament. I didn't do these to sell, just to give away. RabidAlien and meflick

neal560sl
Thank you Kevin, I have been trying to do a new ornament or two for each of the Grandchildren each year. I started a number of years ago making them each a turned ornament each year, then I started doing Steve Good's ornaments. I remember as a kid when I was around 8 or 10 my Mom and dad got me using their old Montgomery Ward (power craft) jigsaw. I don't know why I went so long in between without doing it. meflick
Toothpick
What size/brand blade did you use? That is amazing work.

neal560sl
I most always use just one blade for just about every thing I cut. I use the Olson Mach #3 blade. I have bought and tried the Flying Dutchman and the Pegus blades and honestly don't care for either of them. I just cut a compound cut ornament out of one inch rock maple with the same blade I had already cut probably half a dozen or more ornaments with blade already and it still worked fine. I love the smooth finish the blade leaves also.

Your family will treasure them for sure. My mother did cross stitch ornaments for each of us for years. My husband's aunt made hand cut on the saw by her husband and painted by her ornaments and decorations. We have a number of those as well. Those are my most treasured ornaments. They are put in their own separate box and are the one "thing" I would want to try and save if my home was burning and I could get to them! Even more treasured since they are both gone now. My goal is to start providing scrolled ornaments to my children and nieces and nephews to add to their "collection" since my mother is no longer here to provide cross stitched ones.
