JimErn Posted December 23, 2018 Report Posted December 23, 2018 Anyone sure as to what it is? My son brought over a root ball wondering if I could use it Jim OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kywoodmaster Posted December 24, 2018 Report Posted December 24, 2018 Sure looks like it to me. I have a few boards that have the same look. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
jollyred Posted December 24, 2018 Report Posted December 24, 2018 Hit it with a hammer. If it leaves a dent in the hammer, that is osage orange. OCtoolguy, Scrolling Steve and tomsteve 2 1 Quote
Gonzo Posted December 24, 2018 Report Posted December 24, 2018 Nope , this is Osage, a small town in north central Minnesota. (The picture that says, Eat here, get gas & worms). Population 150? We vacation on Straight Lake, just a stones throw from Osage. Name of the place is Osage Bait and Taclke. Good burgers and cold beer. Picture credit goes to Karl, who posted the picture 11/21 in Coffee House, under Signs. Sorry Jim, I couldn't resist. OCtoolguy, Scruffydog and tomsteve 2 1 Quote

I thought it might have something to do with the Osage Indians and their story from Oklahoma. Very sad story. tomsteve 1 Quote
fredfret Posted December 24, 2018 Report Posted December 24, 2018 Bois de arc or wood of the bow. The plains Indians used it for making their bows. Yes the Osage orange name comes from that tribe. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JimErn Posted December 25, 2018 Author Report Posted December 25, 2018 Hey Gonzo, that was cute, we have an Osage in Texas too, of course it is a ghost town now but still on the map OCtoolguy 1 Quote
