jerry1939
I have an unheated garage and make patterns in the winter. Grease my Delta the last thing in the fall. What I do is take clamps & mount 1 X 4s around the edge of the workbench. Won't tell you why I needed to learn this. However, it takes as much time to search for piece as it did to lube the saw. jerry OCtoolguy
JimErn
Just below the motor shaft in the second video, on the yellow body flange it appears to have metal flakes If that is metal flakes, something in the drive assembly is disintegrating, usually a bearing, but I do not have a dewalt so I am guessing barb.j.enders and OCtoolguy

It's sort of like finding droppings near a termite nest. Always spells trouble. @barb.j.enders ,I have all the info for the different bearings, sleeves and where to get them if you need the info. It would seem to make sense, given the noise. OCtoolguy

Options are: Their repair bill - $520, Dewalt flat rate repair - $320, trade in for a new saw $550. Went with the flat rate repair!!! Hopefully it will only be a couple of weeks. Unit gets sent to Edmonton. With the flat rate repair, they also check the whole saw over and repair everything!!! OCtoolguy

I realize that you are in Canada and things are very different there but that sure seems like a lot of money to repair a saw that can be purchased brand new for about $400 here in the states. Are you anywhere near the U.S. border? I think I might order a new one from Grizzly and have it shipped to a General Delivery post office in the closest U.S. town to you. Or something along that order.

Heli_av8tor
I’m trying to understand the motor making that noise. Anyone know what type of bearings are used in the motor and could they be replaced? Tom

Can't you just buy a motor for these saws? It is the motor, brushes and control board. New in Winnipeg through Canadian Woodworkers is $699.95 plus 13% tax, no trade. I am near a border town, but with our dollar at .75 or so, it would be very close to what I would pay here anyhow. On the Bob Brokaw video, he talked about the motor and in 2014 when he did the video the cost of the motor (USA) was about $250. We don't have an active Craigs list in Winnipeg, Kijiji doesn't have any available. Went with the flat rate as it seemed to be the best option. The guy at the shop I orginally took it to isn't charging me for any of the work they did. He liked that I was well informed about the machine and knew what I was talking about - so thanks to all on the formum for making me look good!!! I guess I'm happy that I'm not Canadian when it comes to that sort of thing. We do have it pretty good down here. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Best of luck and happy scrolling.
