JimErn
After Santa came and left behind a Dremel plunge router attachment, I was faced with a dilemma. I could use my one and only Dremel, changing bits as needed for the plunge router, or get another and dedicate it to the plunge router. Holy molly, around $50! Someone earlier mentioned the Wen rotary tool.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003BYRFH8/?coliid=IAGQ2KABSQQ6D&colid=3FFU56ZXONLUZ&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it $20.32 (presently) Even though some of the comments/reviews say it does not fit all Dremel accessories, I took a gamble and ordered it. It works in the Dremel plunge router attachment, not sure about other attachments. It is quieter than my Dremel too. The only draw back is the collects that come with it, the tiny one you need for the small bits (3/64th, etc) is not included, but luckily I had one anyway. If you need another Dremel type rotary tool consider the Wen, it is working well for me. kmmcrafts
I think I was the one that started a topic about these WEN tools.. and did research to find that Steve Good did a review on it too.. Believe Ray bought one.. I still have not took the plunge to buy one yet.. Not expensive and should do it.. LOL.. Then I could leave my drill press set up with the Forestner bit.. OCtoolguy
I bought one of the Wen a while back and reported it here. So far, I like it. The flex cable attachment works great and that in itself made the whole thing worth buying. Now, knowing that the plunge attachment will work with it, I might just buy one. Thanks for the report. JustLarry
That is a good deal for the Wen. I have this chuck added to my Dremels. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CVDWTNV/ref=sspa_dk_hqp_detail_aax_0?psc=1 Larry OCtoolguy and Roberta Moreton 1
Rockytime
I have those chucks on all three of my Dremels and a fourth to use on a bench top drill. I chuck it into the full size chuck and use it for small drills. They are worth the price. OCtoolguy and SCROLLSAW703 1
JTTHECLOCKMAN
Sure does look like a knockoff. Wonder how they get away with that. Same wrench and everything. OCtoolguy, SCROLLSAW703 and kmmcrafts

Unfortunately, this chuck does not fit the Wen, so I have my Dremel in my plunge router base. The flex shaft for my Wen has a lot of runout, so I can't use it for drilling pilot holes. kmmcrafts
WEN has been coming out with some real knock-offs lately I think. I was searching for the Ridgid oscillating spindle / belt sanders thinking of getting a new one as mine I got used and it has a bent shaft for the motor and just doesn't work very well. Could see it being a nice tool. Anyway WEN has one of those that looks quite similar... not sure that it's a exact copy. OCtoolguy

Kevin, I purchased a combo belt/oscillating spindle sander from H/D a couple of years back. I can't say enough good about it. I love it. And, they had them on a sale at the time so I coupled it along with a Weber gas bbq and put the whole thing on a 24 month "same as cash" plan. It's heavy and doesn't have any tendency to move around when using it. It has a good dust collection port on the back side that also works great. I see used ones occasionally on C/L. Yeah I love mine other than the bent shaft which makes the thing vibrate bad.. I even have the heavy duty stand for it.. but it still would like to walk across the floor.. runs good other than the bent shaft.. That is why I was looking to get a new one.. thought maybe it would work better than the one I have.. I gave $75 for it with the stand, and used it now for about 4 years like it is. Figured I got my moneys worth from it and like to get a smoother running one. LOL OCtoolguy

I'd thought about that.. but one.. I want to keep the stand.. and I'd hate to sell it to someone that expecting a smooth operating system.. When I bought it it was in a warehouse that had no power.. had I been able to try it. I'd have not bought it. Stand was well worth it though.. Heaviest stand I've ever seen.. Rolf
I wonder if the Wen has bushings or ball bearings. OCtoolguy
spirithorse
Greetings, There are lots of rotary tools LIKE a Dremel out there. In fact, if you type in your search engine "Rotary Tools Like Dremel" you will get at least 4 advertised items. There are also the Harbor Freight cheap rotary tools that would work for drilling holes in your fretwork patterns but, probably not much of anything else. God Bless! JTTHECLOCKMAN
You can use Steve Good's set up too if plunge drilling is needed. OCtoolguy
JimErn
as an update the Wen mounted in Dremels' plunge router is a dream IMO. So easy and precise, especially compared to my HF drill press OCtoolguy
