kmmcrafts Posted January 14, 2019 Report Share Posted January 14, 2019 Yeah you're right Les... their farmers.. and I believe this business is right at their home... so I assume they just make a very small number of these at a time.. assume they probably had to start from scratch and raw materials send out the base and legs etc. to be powder coated and whatnot.. I figured when i ordered it that it could be upwards of mid Feb. - early March before it would be sitting in my shop.. I'm not about to rush them on it.. I did call late in the week last week about having them machine the worn arms on my old 220VS.. I want that saw in top notch condition for either a back up saw.. or... so it'll be a awesome working saw for the next owner... which ever I decide.. LOL.. The price to remachine the arms was only like $25 per arm.. I'm just going to have them drill them out so they can put the circle inserts in.. so the next time it needs done.. you just buy the inserts and the new wedges .. If I sell it.. I'm not one to sell someone a piece of worn out junk.. it'll be like brand new or else I'll part it out.. too nice of saw and has already had many upgrades to part it out sooo... I'm rebuilding it.. anyway... when i called them I told them I had just ordered a new saw.. then she knew who I was.. she said it hadn't been shipped out yet.. and I never asked when it might ship out.. Scruffydog Posted January 15, 2019 Author Report Share Posted January 15, 2019 After further consideration, and reading old posts about breakdowns & such, I am putting my current saw on the shelf as a backup in case the new one goes down in the middle of a project. That has to count for something. You mean the difference between it and the Excalibur. There are several differences the Seyco and the Excalibur/Pegas. My heart sunk a bit when I saw that you had ordered an EX. As curious as I am to see if General can finally ship a saw from the new Chinese factory that actually functions properly, I was very very very scared for you. The EX right now is very risky, and I've only heard horror stories on the Chinese produced models. General started shipping saws before they got the serious problems worked out on with their production, and burned some resellers. You would be safer buying any of the other EX styled brands as they are all made in the proven factory that once sold solid Excalibur's. He said the new Pegas is due to be here in late February so I went ahead and reserved one. If it is here in February, then I will be a happy camper. If not, then my trusty Hawk will carry me through. I found some nice dense 1/4" foam in the trash at work yesterday, and will be putting it under the saw, sandwiched between that and the wood table slab, to see what that does. I'm also going to make some washers for the mounting bolts to isolate the nut and washer from the body. I figure every little bit helps. Update: Took most of the sheet metal off of the saw and added the foam pad. Also removed all of the plastic on top. Still vibrates, but not as bad. On my old delta the the set screw holding the counter weight came loose. So I went through the entire saw snugged everything up and put fresh lube on all of the moving bits. kmmcrafts Posted January 19, 2019 Report Share Posted January 19, 2019 When I had a old Dremel that vibrated pretty good. I mounted it between the stand and the saw a piece of foam carpet padding. When tightening the bolts down I went ahead and cranked them down tight.. which really only squished the foam and gave very little effect on the vibration... soo I run the saw at the desired speed I wanted to run it a, and started loosening the bolts one turn at a time until it got better... You can sort of fine tune the saw like this.. Looked at it last night and slept on it. Got it this morning. Nice size table. Nice insert. Takes both styles of blade. Took off the ridiculous plastic guard before I even had it bolted down, lol. Scruffydog Posted January 20, 2019 Author Report Share Posted January 20, 2019 (edited) Mounted to the stand with 2 rubber pads, rubber feet on saw, & 2 more rubber pads under lag screw washers. Vibration is in a narrow range throughout the speed dial. The work lite is nice, the blower inadequate. Weighs about 50 pounds. Carry handle. Table tilts 45 each way. Just used the blade that came with it to cut out my wifes name. First "project" of 2019. Thinking about donating the craftsman to the thrift store after I get it put back together. Will use this saw while I do more research and wait for the one I want. So I'll have a cheap saw and a good saw eventually.
