How would you start cutting this pattern

This is where a good bandsaw, set up and tuned for re-sawing, is worth it's weight in gold.  Nothing goes to waste.

There is nothing wrong with cutting this out of 3/4" stock.  Yes 1/2" will cut a little easier.  Using 1/2" will also allow you to easily stack two.  The Faith plaque is 3/4" maple with an 1/8" Baltic Birch backer.

Thanks Bill and Scott.  The good news is that hubby was the woodworker before I picked up the scroll saw so that means there is a great workshop with many tools including a larger bandsaw, table saw, planer, joiner, etc.  However, since I started, we have added several more tools including a drum sander.  Plus, for Christmas he bought me my own 10" bandsaw for doing smaller projects and stuff.  I have now officially made my first band saw box (that I will share once the finish is dry.) I would need to use his bigger band saw for re-sawing for this pattern though.

For me I do stuff a bit different. This piece I would cut the pieces separately from some scrap and glue them onto the backer board. 

This way, if you screw some up, you have not ruined the entire piece.

Once done it gives a different 3 d effect.
