Magazine patterns

I know that many of you subscribe to Scrollsaw and Woodwork magazine so I was wondering how you use the patterns that are stapled in the center of the magazine. I hate to take them out of the magazine and possibly lose the connection between the magazine and the patterns. Do you take them out and copy them and reinsert them in the magazine or what. I know this may be a silly question but it's something that has been in my mind. It would be neat if the publisher would make them available for download online for anybody who is a subscriber. Or do they and I don't know it?

I quit subscribing partly due to this.. When I did use a pattern from the magazine.. I bent the staples to lift off all the pattern papers out scanned them to my computer.. fold as best I could back up and re-insert them in the magazine.. But what I really hated about them was the fact that the patterns are on big sheets so in order to scan them I had to fold them all sorts of ways to get them to fit in my scanner.. then by the time you get them in the paper is all crinkled every which way, LOL.. 

Also hate the fact that.. the magazines take up quite a large space after you save them for 10 years.. 

i'd like to see them go digital.. or.. subscribers get a yearly CD with the magazine in PDF so you could ditch all the issues.. LOL Magazine companies always offering subscribers deals to subscribe.. My issue is I like to keep my copies.. and being into cars trucks and several other things that have magazines.. don't take too long before they take up a whole room in a house... when they could be on a CD.. I'd pay full price for subscriptions if they gave out a disc.. or even make it online subscription.. where you could go print patterns out from the magazine issues... Some of the car ones have went online subscriptions..

Just write the issue and month on the pattern page and you will be able to match the magazine with the pattern page should they become separated,

I have not renewed my prescription because of this.  I know, I am petty.  But in this day and age,,,, you should be able to download them.  I donated my prescription money to Steve Good.  I use more of his patterns anyway.

I cancelled my subscription too for the same reason.  I have written to them and they supposedly are working on it.  (for the last 3 years at least).

I did buy the first 48 issues on DVD and that solves that problem.  Hopefully they will do 12 more issue soon.

I do buy each issue at Walmart and it is cheaper because of the postage to Canada.  If the pattern is in the middle I go to Staples and copy the whole page.

So, I see I'm not the only one with this question. I just wrote an email to them asking about a digital version. I'll wait until I hear back. I was thinking of pulling all the patterns out, cutting them up and copying them. Then put them all in an envelope with the magazine number/date/etc. I love the idea of a digital download and that costs them nada. I'd even pay a bit. Not much, as I'm a cheapskate.

I built a mag file for each year keeping the pullout with each magazine and the years issues together.  I also scan the projects I want to do or think I may do after a few years I toss the mag or do ate it to a charity.

My favorite magazine went bankrupt or something along those lines and went out of business.. otherwise I'd probably still get that one.. Think if I recall it was called Creative Woodworks and Crafts.. The one that's out still is not bad.. but that other one for me was awesome.. and was a monthly.. not a by monthly or whatever the current one is 4 or 6? issues a year.. anyway.. that one was the bomb in my opinion..

I have not renewed my subscription for bunch of reasons but mainly because I found the patterns of less interest to me and many require painting.

Any patterns that I want to cut, I scan to pdf to use.

I take them out and file them in a 2 drawer filing cabinet I got at Good Will for 5 bucks. top is for the ScrollSaw and wood working and bottom is for general patterns for other sources. The SSWW is by year and date and other by category the fall in. I do keep the Mag. in cupboard to refer to when needed. I can see a time I will stop keeping them. I will have a talk with Grand kids and there father who does wonders with a computer. I am luck if I can turn it on. It is an issue to consider.

My subscription is up for renewal. I won't be renewing. Magazines tend to pile up and. I prefer to purchase patterns. There also so many kind pattern designers here that are generous with their designs. I have more patterns that I can cut in my lifetime.

I liked the Creative Crafts and woodworks, as I really liked the Christmas issue with all the ornament patterns.. I had just renewed my subscription for three years when they went bankrupt. In my opinion it was a much better magazine. I do not subscribe to the newer one.

Use to just take them out and if there is an article with it attach all to patterns made.

Use to love magazines of all different varieties. Did a lot of furniture projects from them and even though I hadn't, would save all of them for future reference. Same with model railroading, music, dental etc etc. Then when the TV show "Hoarders" ask me to film at my location (only kidding guys and gals, in reality, just ran out of cabinet space),  took the bull by the horn, cancelled subscriptions and loaded up the cans at the curb. Talk about mental relief. Now, except for my AARP and my free Taylor guitar magazine, that's it. And they get tossed frequently. As to scrolling, either buy it or download it.

i hated going through magazines looking for a certain type of project. I went through and tore out all the projects that interested me, labeled them and filed them. I also filed the inserts by month year. It’s easier now.

I open up the staples to remove the insert.  I then refold the insert to get just the pattern I need.  Most of the time I put the insert back in to the magazine so I find it again.  I do try to maintain a spread sheet where I put the pattern name (what I call it), the designer's name, and the magazine name and issue number.
