I don't recall it being a metric. If I had to guess, I'd say 1/4 x 20.

I got a replacement screw from Grizzly several years ago it is a single sided handle and as I recall it is Metric.  

If I can find the number I will post it.

It's metric I think #6x10. Take the old one with you and check it at the hardware store. I know Ace and Lowe's both have testing equipment.

I tapped an old one 1/4-20.  Worked good for me.  It was a little bigger than the original so it had more surface for the blade.

You do know that the end of the thumb screw is a replaceable insert.  You can get the pieces from SEYCO.com (Quick Clamp Renew Kit).  I think you can also get them from e-replacementparts.

I don't have a Dewalt but I am curious by nature. What does the insert do and why is it superior to just a plain end screw?

It keeps the screw from twisting the blade out of position.  In other words, the contact point of the thumbscrew isn't subject to the torque of the screw being tightened and this helps keep the blade in position.  If it was just a plain screw, it would twist directly against the blade as it tightens in the clamp and the blade would tend to move around and even bend.

Maybe your Hawk has the insert type, have you looked?   What Bill says is true and it is good to take the insert off and clean it once in a while.  I even add a little light grease to mine before I put it back together..

The hawk uses the pivot of the blade holders to accomplish the same thing. They have no need of the inserts.
