A couple of desk clocks

I bought a few clock mechanisms recently in the hope they might sell well.  The first pattern is by Steve Good, the second is from Creative Scrolling but modified to have a base.  Both are in Red Beech finished with BLO.  About 8 x 6 inches approx.

And the two so very different shades of the same wood, made me wonder, so after some research and I found this to answer my question

The dry heartwood is a light to medium red-brown colour. The sapwood is light brown to white and exhibits toning in greys, browns and greens.

Very nicely done..  I've cut and sold a few of the cat clocks in the past.. Fun ones to make for sure..

Nice work Rob! Seeing as they are both cut from the same wood, is the color difference due too light?

Thanks Jim.  I think some of the difference is caused by my phone camera and the different colour backgrounds.  Here is another picture of the cats where the colour is much closer although it does have some streaking so you are probably right that that one is sapwood.
