Popular Post Smitty Posted February 6, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted February 6, 2019 From Mars Attacks. 1/8" bb 8x10. 107 holes. I haven't framed it yet. I am in the process of making a table saw miter sled. I decided no more frames until I make things easier on myself. Foxfold, Falcon, spotsdad and 8 others 10 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted February 6, 2019 Report Posted February 6, 2019 Not my kind of picture, but great job of cutting and finishing. What are you building for a table saw miter sled? Quote

What are you building for a table saw miter sled? The sled will be the typical plywood with 2 tight runners and 2 PERFECT* 45° rails for making picture frames. *perfect..... Or as close as is humanly possible. The goal is to be able to make frames and not have to worry about which side of the jig cut which piece of frame. So it depends on 2 exact 45's aligned exactly with the blade. If the frame parts have any gaps I will make another sled. I hope it won't come to that. Quote
Scrappile Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 Here is what I made, very simple and works well. I have found that by cutting some angled wedges and stops and taping them to the sled, I can use it to cut other than 45' with good accuracy also Quote
Smitty Posted February 7, 2019 Author Report Posted February 7, 2019 Wedges and stops. That’s brilliant. Have you made stuff like hex or octagon frames? what im going to make is like yours. I’m going to have sides about 1or 1.5” tall. But other than that it’ll be the same. I have always made frames just using the miter gauge. It’s no secret how much harder it is that way and I’m ashamed that I haven’t done this sooner. Quote
Smitty Posted February 7, 2019 Author Report Posted February 7, 2019 Have you seen the movie Mars Attacks? Quote
Scrappile Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) No, I have not seen it. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie, unless it is on Netflex. I have not made frames other than ones with 90' corners, but I will this year. I am going to try to learn some different types of scrolling, different for me anyway, and the pictures will be built within the frames. The frames will be different shapes, hexagon and octagon. I did use the jig with wedges and stops to cut the pieces for this quilt pattern piece I made for my wife. Edited February 7, 2019 by Scrappile Dave Monk 1 Quote
Smitty Posted February 7, 2019 Author Report Posted February 7, 2019 That’s very nice. Is the center zebra wood? the movie is from 1996 and is full of stars and funny. A parody of an alien invasion movie. I don’t know anyone who has seen it that doesn’t smile when the subject comes up. My wife talks about quilting in retirement. My grandma always had quilting parties with her friends. All by hand and with a singer treadle machine. I live in Lincoln Nebraska where we have the national quilting museum. And that’s what I got to say about quilting. Heh, I feel like Forest Gump. Quote
lawson56 Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 Seen the movie.Loved it.Awesome job!! Quote
