Popular Post Charlie E
I'm a big fan of the Lord of the Rings movies. So far I've been too lazy to read the books. Love this pattern by Charles Dearing. I cut it in 1/2" Red Oak . It's 8" X 10". The backing is rough cut cedar which I stained English Chestnut then fogged it with flat black from a rattle can to darken it a bit. I planed one side to get it to 1/8" thickness and cut 1 1/2" planks and glued them to 1/4" BB rough side up. oldhudson
Great job, a lot more than just the scroll work. You should really treat yourself to the books. Remember all the characters, places and plots came from the mind of Tolkien, so get it all in his words. And you should start at the beginning and read the Hobbit. My wife and I read the whole series to our kids as bed time stories. I wish I had grandchildren to read to..... I've got Fellowship of the Ring laid out to start on after I finish a couple of others. I read the Hobbit and really liked it. I think he and C S Lewis were friends and I've loved everything I've read by Lewis. RabidAlien

Always interested what size drill and blade you used. Beautiful piece. Thanks. I used a FDUR #1 blade on everything except the outsides of Gandalf and the stick where I used a FDUR #3. As for the drill size I'm not sure what # it is. I got some small bits from Harbor Freight that aren't numbered. I just know a #1 blade would barely fit through it. I went through over 2 dozen blades on this one. I ruined more by repeatedly bending them while threading them through the holes than breaking them. Thanks again. I did get it legitimately but I don't think it's available anymore.

Thanks Larry Bearwoods advertises they are going to have like 1000 Charles Dearing patterns available. That was a while age, but it still says that at their sight. Maybe if you contact them they could speed it up some. Here is one almost as good: https://oldcrowscrollwerks.weebly.com/store/p622/Gandalf_the_Gray.html Edited February 16, 2019 by Scrappile Charlie E
