Delta 14" drill press in need of repair ???

Well my Delta 14" standing drill press's belts are shot, and like many things of Delta, parts have been discontinued. The tension lever is also frozen up so I'm going to do some surgery on that today, and if not fixable, chuck the two hundred pounds of useless metal. Hopefully though, if get that working, I'll try the adjustable V notch belts that I use on my table saw to replace the belts. The question is has anyone used these on  belt driven drill presses?

If it were mine.. I'd invest in a couple cans of PB blaster and soak the tension mechanism down good. Spray it a couple times a day for about a week.. You might just free it up..that stuff does wonders..

As for the belt, I guess I've never heard of the adjustable V notch belt.. hopefully you'll get that adjuster working and can just get a standard V belt..

I use those link belts on my tablesaw and really do work well. The problem with those on a drill press is they are bulkier and if your drill press has 2 sets of spindles they could get in the way of each other. Easier changing a one piece belt on a drill press when changing speeds. Ebay has a few dealers that are selling them. I am sure they are interchangable with the many clone drill presses being sold today. I too recommend that PB blaster it does work well

Ok! With a little persuasion from the tool of choice (hammer), got the lever moving. Greased it up and now it's functional. Off to Harbor Freight to pick up the chain link belt material. Should make up two belts as needed offered by them. Got an intarsia project going, so I don't want to wait three to five days for shipment just to find out it's the wrong size. John, for the way I use my drill press, I don't change speeds. That's probably why I didn't realize the belts were so despicable. Haven't opened the cover in years.

SUCCESS!  Tried the local auto parts store for the belts, but no luck. So went to Harbor Freight and secured the chain link belt material and made up the two needed belts. Of course I made them one link too short but that was a quick fix. Cleaned out the mud wasp nest in the belt compartment (it is Florida you know) and turned it on. Smooth and quiet, almost like brand new. So thanks to all and I'm glad that it was a learning experience for myself and others who got into this thread.
