edward
I started to make a tissue box holder from Steves site and had to stop as I found the pattern wasn't right, it was smaller then a normal tissue box, so I had to start over again, so far it is working, will use the one I started for Ornaments. Just to let everyone know check the pattern before you decide to make one. meflick and OCtoolguy
Foxfold
I've done that before, but found I'd not checked the % when printing Now I always double check that it says 100% before pressing any buttons LOL. OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
I am going to make this one too. I did measure a few boxes of tissue and found that there doesn't really seem to be a standard in the industry as to size. So, I'm going to make mine to fit the largest one I found and the rest will just have to be a sloppy fit. I also asked Steve for a custom pattern for the sides. We live in an area that palm trees are very prolific so my wife wanted palm trees on the sides. Steve is such a great guy, it took him overnight to send me a pattern. edward
I found that 5/1/4 x 5/1/4 x 5/1/2" high works for me. I printed the pattern out, but didn't check to see if it was 100%, maybe that was my mistake. OCtoolguy
Rockytime
I printed out Steve's pattern also. The patterns are in the shop so I can't check now but when I printed them out I measured the patterns and compared them with the dimensions printed on the pattern. They did not jive. They appeared to be off a little. I just assumed I would make adjustments if necessary. OCtoolguy
wombatie
I thought it didn't look big enough but I thought that maybe our boxes were bigger than yours. I will check the printing again. Thanks for the heads up Edward. Marg OCtoolguy
lawson56
I have ran into that issues myself,I always double chk. OCtoolguy
browders
I have made two of these boxes using Steve's plan as is. They have both fit Kleenex brand boxes without any problem. Jim OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
Here is what I found. My wife buys Target brand and Puffs brand. I printed out the patterns just as they were in Steve's plans. Both of the boxes will fit but the Puff's is a tiny bit smaller on one side. Barb says she doesn't buy the Kleenex brand because it's always higher in price. So I'm going with Steve's plans as they are. I did make sure that they printed at 100%.
Woodmaster1
Tissue boxes are a great project. I had my middle school students make them for a project. I had as many as 145 a year cranked out. I am glad they brought back the shop classes at the school. My 5th grade grandson loves the class. I guess it's time to give him some shop time at grandpas' shop. meflick

The folks in charge seemed to have forgotten that we still need to have things fixed. Where are you located?
Woodmaster1
Indiana, they are instituting a new Diploma track where a student can get a diploma instead of taking the ridiculous math requirement for graduation. Instead of taking algebra 2 they need to meet community service and career readiness requirements. They start the students on a career path in middle school and hope have internships for them their senior year. The school I taught at is ahead of schedule and have businesses donating time and money for the program (over $225,000.00) so far to equip the old shop areas. I guess my retirement was too early (haha) missed out on the new trend. 39 minutes ago, octoolguy said: That's great to hear. We need more trade/shop classes back in our schools. They are so shackled by the unions here and the backward thinking, at this point we have no hope. Sad. I always wanted to be a shop teacher but I didn't want to have to go through all the nonsense classes to get there. So I started my own business instead. Karl S
Shop classes are surely needed I graduated from a trade school back in the old days, BUT there is also a need for other occupations these days like the link I attached. Now that would be a great job if you have the mind for it. Just Saying, https://youtu.be/5qteMlMAaNM

Mort Tenon
10 or 11 years ago, I used to make and sell a lot of tissue boxes. I had a pretty simple design with a fretwork cutout on one side, an animal or flower or something. The very first one I sold came back the following week, and she said it was too small for her Puffs. "I won't use the cheap tissues," she told me. After that, I found there are numerous sizes of boxes and it's hard to keep up with all of them. You can make a "one size fits all," but it has to be bigger than the biggest, making the small ones get kind of lost inside. I eventually quit making them, but I still see someone selling them occasionally. Edited March 5, 2019 by Mort Tenon OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
Well, like I said, I'm going to make mine to fit the two brands my wife buys. If she changes brands, well too bad I guess. My biggest complaint is that the tissue boxes are so lightweight that whenever I try to get a tissue out of one, it ends up on the floor. So the weight of something made of wood has got to help solve that problem. I'm all for using napkins. There's always a pile of them sitting in the cupboard and they work just fine. LOL. teachnlearn
Probably not needed all the time. Saw a youtube on a project and he glued the pattern to cardboard before trying it he taped it up to see if that's what he wanted. Good test way for most small shop projects. Matter of fact I would go with a large frig box for a large project with expensive wood. RJF OCtoolguy
