RabidAlien Posted March 5, 2019 Report Posted March 5, 2019 Couple of years back, I think it was in Albuquerque, someone built a "snowman"....out of tumbleweeds. Gordster 1 Quote
MTCowpoke22 Posted March 5, 2019 Report Posted March 5, 2019 We're actually above 10 degrees for the first time in a month. Weatherman said we've been below freezing for 42 consecutive days now, which is a record. Gordster 1 Quote
Chiloquinruss Posted March 6, 2019 Report Posted March 6, 2019 Sometimes we have a little snow at the train park. And then there is this week! Russ MTCowpoke22 and Gordster 2 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted March 6, 2019 Report Posted March 6, 2019 This has been a terrible winter and a very long winter too... We never got any Fall weather in 2018.. we went from sunny and warm Sept.. to the second week of Oct snow and bitter cold.. December was actually warmer and more mild than Oct-Nov. but then January came and bitter cold again.. Very unusual winter here in Michigan.. Also we've only had about 15% of the possible sunshine this winter.. Michigan doesn't typically get much sun anyway due to the lakes creating lake effect clouds.. I copied this from the local weather mans blog.. but I'll also link to the story if anyone wants to read about it.. I love my Michigan winters normally.. but this year I was ready to be done with it by mid January, LOL.. and I think most locals feel the same way.. as it's been all over the papers and news, LOL.. Not having much sun sort of makes everyone moody, LOL Can't imagine living in Alaska during the several days of no sun.. or even several days of no darkness either, LOL Since Nov. 1, Grand Rapids has had only 15.3% of possible sunshine (weighing each month equally). That's just 55% of the sunshine we see in an average winter (27%). Here's the % of possible sunshine by month this winter with the average % in ( November 9% (28%), December 13% (20%), January 22% (26%) and February 17% (34%). https://www.woodtv.com/weather/bill-s-blog/it-s-been-a-cloudy-winter-1/1818480459 Quote

We got snow the other day that quickly turned to rain and then to freeze again.Every thing is iced up. Bonus side,it's march, last year we got more snow in April then we did for the winter, believe it or not. Farmers took a beating, but then it turned around and was one of the hottest summer's in some time.ALAS lol kmmcrafts 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted March 8, 2019 Report Posted March 8, 2019 Weather here has been horrible as well. Thought we were going to be warming up - but they are talking a major storm next week:( Quote
Scrappile Posted March 8, 2019 Report Posted March 8, 2019 Longest time of snow on the ground, most accumulation, in known history in our area. Not the coldest temperatures though, the river hasn't frozen up. But where is that global warming when you need it? Quote
Chiloquinruss Posted March 8, 2019 Report Posted March 8, 2019 (edited) "the river hasn't frozen up" Same here. Long time on the ground snow, but temps in the 20's most nights. So far no -'s and only a few single digits. Our river did not freeze over this year. Southern Oregon, Russ Edited March 8, 2019 by Chiloquinruss Quote
teachnlearn Posted March 8, 2019 Report Posted March 8, 2019 If the snow piles are high enough, you won't have to mow in July cause of the snow drifts! RJF Quote

I volunteered to serve my Country in the Army. Stationed in Camp Tuto, Greenland (Google it) for all of 1960. You get used to 24 hours of darkness. I was in administration, so worked inside, but outside you only had the use of 1 hand. The other was holding a flashlight. During 24 hours of daylight, the human body has an unbelievable amount of energy. Typically slept 4-5 hours per "day". Did LOTS of hiking & sightseeing. jerry Gordster and kmmcrafts 2 Quote
Chiloquinruss Posted March 9, 2019 Report Posted March 9, 2019 24 hours of daylight Biggest shock of my traveling life was we were visiting a buddy in Anchorage in July. Got off the plane to 85 degree weather. We visited the local model railroad club and left the building a little after midnight. It was bright sunshine and there were folks water skiing in the lake in the park! What a mind bender week we spent. Russ Gordster 1 Quote
