BB sourch that you like

Being an old geezer of unsound mind & body, I have 2 hobbies.  Our Iowa garage is unheated, so I saw when the temperature is comfortable.  In the winter, I pick cartoons off a tree in the back yard & post them on this site.  Have bought BB from Sloan's for years & have never been the least bit disappointed. http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/

In a few  days we will be warm.  Tried calling Sloan's & their message said they will be closed until Apr.1.  For 1/8" fretwork I ALWAYS pay a little extra for their "Good Both Sides".  That way, if there is an imperfection on 1 side, I can flip it over.  Where do you Nice People buy from?  Years ago we attended a wood show & Ocooch had some BB sheets that we bought, but it was like a big box store, I did some sorting to pick out what I wanted.

Where are other sites you would recommend ordering from?  Thanks in advance. If I wait for Sloan's to reopen, the world wouldn't stop turning.

Do you have the tools to cut up 5' x 5' sheets?  I can get it by the sheet at local lumberyards, not the big box stores like Lowes and HD.  I always have them cut it in half so it is easier for me to transport and handle on my table saw when I get home.

Why did you limit your question to just the "Nice People"? You don't care about the where I buy mine? I'm crushed!

I have purchased a lot of wood from Sloan's in the past, but the last bunch I got was from the Klingspor location in Hickory, NC.  Granted, I was in there and ran into the stack, but I pulled the top five sheets and they were great.  Might give them a call--a great bunch hanging around the counter.

I get all mine from here but then again I drive and get it.  I normally get 5-6 full sheets at one time.  It is an 1.5 hours each way but I do it once or twice a year and combine it with something the wife wants to do.....shopping.  I know they will break down sheets for free.  Very nice folks.  Might be worth a quick call.

I suppose I could make an exception in your case !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well then, if I'm now included, I might suggest looking at this place. I realize that it's on the West coast but they have great wood, the owner is a Vet and maintains a small museum on his premises and is all around a great guy. I went there once and found some 5/16" baltic birch that had a water stain on one side. I bought 2 sheets 4 x 8 for $5 ea. They even cut them for me so they'd fit in my little Scion. I recently purchased a 4X8 sheet of floor underlayment. It is 3 ply, 3/16", clean on both sides for $11. I put it next to my  BB from Woodcraft and see no difference. I know underlayment is often demonized but HD is 10 minutes away. In addition they cut it to 2X4' at no charge. There is a Paxton in Denver but it is 30 minutes away in traffic.

I have a corded Rockwell 4 inch saw. It's now cordless. I also use there clamp stand which is heavy, stable, strong clamping and portable for apartments and outside. Use a mini saw or yours with a high tooth blade, make a track saw guide, if you saw a thin sheet put them between two scrape sheets or at least backed by a scrap sheet. RJF

I buy mine from a local lumber store that I get most of my lumber and many tools from.. http://theworkbench.com/.. Don't think they do online orders or ship items.. but anyway they have two locations one here in Michigan and one in Indiana.. They're about 30-35 mile from me.. but I typically buy enough to last me a good 6-10 months..
