Bushton Finally Called Me... For Once

Nicole called me today, My saw will be shipping out later today.. she said usually arrives within 3 days..

Sounds like they've had issues in the past with UPS or their packaging.. she said this batch of saws will be packaged with added padding.. customers have waited long enough... ( you think? LOL ).. She mentioned to open the box and inspect it before signing for it.. make special note of the rear table mount.. apparently this is where the damage always is and the mount gets damaged.. She also said they have been experimenting with different packing methods.. and they really would like to not have to have the customers have to put their saw table on as it's quite a process to get it all aligned but they've been looking into shipping them like that... I told her she could leave the table off if she liked as I've rebuilt many different kinds of saws including the older Hawk.. and I don't have an issue mounting the table and tuning the saw.. she said they might leave it off for me.. but still make note of any damage before signing for the saw..

Now... hopefully it was worth the wait.. I know this isn't the old style Hawk that I know and like.. She is also quite lucky they called today.. I had my deadline set for tomorrow but contemplated waiting another day or two.. but I had planed to cancel out my order this very week... simply because I've been communicating with a seller of a used Hawk 220VS Ultra... had looked at the saw ( like new ).. and was going to be buying it this Saturday..

Good luck with getting the UPS driver to wait for you to open the box. Where I live, they just drop whatever on our porch and knock a couple of times. By the time we get to the door, the truck is pulling away.

I have to sign.. won't sign until I inspect..

At a company I worked at they received sample transducers. These are a ceramic/clay ring wrapped with wire, connect to an amplifier and they put out a high volume of a specific sound. The company shipped samples by UPS and the padded envelope was about the size of a postcard. Three times the envelope came in with a large footprint and the transducer was crushed. The company then upped their game and put the envelope in a small cube box. Two times the box was crushed and the transducer smashed. They finally sent this little thing still in its padded envelope in a knee-high box. Sucess!  Probably spent 100 times the amount in shipping than the value of their sample! RJF

Yeah, I've never had much luck with UPS.. or Fedex for that matter.. Shipped a lot of bigger stuff Greyhound really cheap.. without much issue.. Too bad USPS has a limit of 70 pounds.. I know they all have insurance claims but I've shipped a lot with USPS with very little issues.. Now saying that I just jinxed myself, LOL

Best of luck Kevin.  My Pegas saw arrives tomorrow.  We'll compare new toys on Friday.  🙂

I'm thinking you'll love that Pegas.. I'm really starting to like the Excalibur I bought now that I'm finally getting the thing to run right.. Hoping the Pegas runs great for you all that bought them.. and that nobody has any issues like I've had with my Excalibur.. Hoping Pegas has some strict quality control.. Knowing what I know now about the Excalibur saws and the Pegas.. I would have probably went with one of those instead of the Hawk..

kevin you are not sounding like a person who really is looking forward to this new saw. I hope things are going to work out for you and there is no problems with it. If you have to do work on it after all said and done I would give them a piece of my mind and could not care who they are. They really sound like a company I do not want to deal with. It is ashame the name will get dragged through the mud if they do not turn things around. Shipping problems now too. I have had tools shipped from various companies by UPS, FedX and never had a problem. Way too many other saws out there.

I hope you continue to cut on the Excalibur now that it is set up correctly.  I would be really curious, some time down the line, to see if you think the Hawk is worth the extra money.  A compare and contrast kind of thing with cost in mind.

Good luck

I think the problem they're having with shipping is probably mostly on them.. They can blame UPS all they want but if it's not packaged good is it UPS fault? Come on now.. this is a 103# box.. I'm really curious how the packaging is going to be.. since I do a lot of shipping I know this all too well and.. I not only experienced in shipping stuff for my business.. but I worked 12 years in a shipping receiving at a local business.. If you don't package it like they're going to use the package as a football to play a game in the shipping warehouse.. then it's probably going to get damaged..

I don't know these days how UPS and FedEx handle claims.. but U.S. mail can and will refuse to payout on a claim if it's poorly packaged..

I'm excited to get the saw.. but also kinda bummed too because I only wanted a NEW back-up saw for the last couple years that I would like.. The DeWalt was taking crap and needed rebuilt.. but not time to do it.. then I run across the 2 Hawks.. Then the Excalibur.. My Excalibur was brand spanking new but a piece of work from day one with issues.. So.. since I really liked the Hawks my plan was to buy the new one, sell the DeWalt, Excalibur, older Hawk and keep the 226 Ultra as it was also new when I got it.. and just have the two Hawks.. Now... finally the Excalibur is running awesome.. and now also finally the Hawk is on the way.. On one hand I'm excited.. on the other I finally got what I needed with the Excalibur.. I had my mind set to cancel out the order on the Hawk by the end of the week simply because I don't really need it.. Then they called.. I could have still canceled but I also am just too curious about the saw.. so I went ahead with it.. Not supper impressed at all the way they run things.. No kind of incentive for the 3+ month wait on the saw.. not one call from them about the issue.. always me calling them.. Then they say to open and inspect it for damage before signing for the package.. Did mention they are working to try different packaging methods etc so they obviously have claims problems.. They really could use some professional business training.. LOL UPS will stop paying claims out if they continue to have some issues with package claims..

All in all I do think they seem to be trying to better themselves.. and as for me.. I love the "old" Hawks that I know and I hope I can love this new saw just as much.. but time will tell... Hate to see a top quality saw leave the markets but if they can't run the place then... Anyway we'll see how the saw preforms and whether the wait was worth it.. or if I would do this all over again..

Kevin I wish you good luck with this saw and we all will expect to see a good review from someone who has scrolled for a long time and has used an older RBI when they were a different company run by different people. To me they should be reaching out to you and others like you to get feedback and if they are trying to build this into something to carry on a well known brand name then do so by rewarding such feedback. In such a crowded market and with new saws hitting the market all the time they are competing for those $$. But as I said just this journey down this path to get a scrollsaw is not encouraging and to keep piling on with ever step of the way is sending bad messages throughout the scrolling world. They need to realize this. Maybe some time down the road you can send them a email and put in there the thoughts of this forum and your own and explain your unhappiness. yes you should have been compensated as well as all the others that waited for the saw. You do not know yet what problems lie ahead if they rushed to ship these saws out with flaws. For the price they are charging for these saws there should be no problems from order to delivery. These are not some 250 dollar saw. Oh well again good luck. I am glad I am not in the market for any saws anytime soon.

I, for one, am looking forward to what you think of your new Hawk saw. I'm really curious as to what they have changed to make it better. The old Hawk was a pretty great saw from all that I've read here on the SSV. I will be very interested in what all has been changed/upgraded/re-engineered. And for all the time that has gone by since the inception of their problems, I certainly hope they did some fine tuning on your saw before shipping it out. Best of luck with your new baby.

Shipping. We did some mail business in Mundelein, IL for some years. We had a major shipping supplier a city over and could drive to pick up anything we needed. Stopped for a while when they charged $25.00 for pickup and claimed it was for safety since we were picking up right along with semi drop off and it was dangerous. Had a CDL and I think this was garbage. , "Lived in a family that believed work was a given to get ahead in life, mowed lawns at 10 and have worked in something since, my military work experience looked like a small phone book..' Anyway, they have locations around the country with a heck of a catalog and large supply of anything shipping, maintenance. Worth checking it for shipping ideas if you don't use it. RJF
