kmmcrafts
Making this a two part question... First I use this mask https://www.northernsafety.com/Product/185330?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyoHlBRCNARIsAFjKJ6BJLCGBDj0UKcS-uZuayDCoBFpeQZjZHduAZ59w2vBTprOcKJf7dPQaAryVEALw_wcB But my straps are really worn and not holding well.. I can't seem to find replacement straps.. probably searching the wrong search terms.. LOL I'm also open to try a new mask.. so I know it's been talked about in the past but thought I'd ask again because maybe someone is using something they just recently picked up etc since the last topic was up.... The drawback to the one I have is my exhaust air comes out of the front.. and in the cold shop... it fogs up my magnifier lens.. mostly only for the first few minutes of sawing so apparently it warms the lens in a few minutes if cutting then it's fine.. So.. anyone know of a replacement strap? and also.. what mask are you using?
OCtoolguy
I bought one on Amazon that uses replaceable filters. I like it because it has two straps. One goes around my neck with a clasp at the back. The other one goes behind the crown of my head and has a plastic cup on the top that really helps position it. It came without the filters because there are different types. I think all together it was under $30. Also, if you take your mask to a fabric store, I'll bet you can buy new elastic for it. I'd try that first. Just a 25 mile trip. Edited March 31, 2019 by octoolguy kmmcrafts
OCtoolguy
This mask https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IF7RCU6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And these filters https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00328IAO0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This one wasn't available when I ordered mine. scrollingforsanity
I am using the GVS Elipse Half Mask respirator with Hespa P100 filters. I purchased from Ebay $ 26.95 and free shipping, but amazon has it as well. It works really well, I like it because it breathes both ways and does not get hot like some of the masks. The only thing I found it sits close to my eyes on the nose piece and I have to tilt my head a little different when scrolling. probably just my big head. I believe this might be the same mask Steve Good was using. grizz OCtoolguy
JimErn
I googled some, like you could not find the straps, for the price I would just buy another I use that same mask OCtoolguy
kmmcrafts
That's what I was thinking Jim, I found new ones on eBay for 19.** basically $20 and free shipping.. If I drive my old truck 25 mile each way to town just to see if the fabric store might have the material.. it'll cost close to that in fuel.. she only gets about 8-10 MPG, LOL I'll check the stores for a replacement band one day when I'm in the area.. The fabric store is all the way on the opposite side of town that I'm normally in.. OCtoolguy
meflick
Kevin - I have that same mask, but haven't had the need to think I need to replace the straps yet. Since they are sort of wide - you could probably get some wide elastic and replace as needed. You might be able to find it in a local Walmart if they have a sewing area or check your local fabric stores. You can probably also find it online. I just measured my straps, they are about 3/4" wide so I would look for 3/4" for 1" wide. Probably need to stay close to the 3/4" width if you want to use the clips head rest that is on the present straps. Here's one type to look for in your local stores. (This one says its 1 1/2" wide but they sell all widths.) I would recommend the non-roll type so that it doesn't "roll up" from the edges. You can also find online at Amazon or online fabric and craft stores. Amazon choices though seem to be a little more "bulk" buys so depends on how often you feel the need to change out the straps. kmmcrafts
I'm driving a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 club cab.. 4x4 5.9 (360 ) ... It actually gets about 14-16 in the summer.. but doesn't like this cold.. and I usually only drive it in the summer and not as a daily driver.. just so happens that my sons car broke so he's driving my van.. I normally only use the truck to haul my 29ft 5th wheel travel trailer.. I've own the truck for 10 years now ( april 3rd ) and have put almost 20,000 mile since I bought it.. that shows you how much I drive it, LOL remember I live in the boonies too so.. just to go anywhere I'm looking at a 20 mile trip, LOL My son has a 1993 Dodge W-250 4x4 Ex cab with the 12 valve Cummins Diesel and gets 27mpg.. and 19- 22 pulling my 5th wheel actually he has two of them trucks.. and has them tuned up.. but he currently has them taken down to the frame for full resto job.. Best 3 years of our married lives. If we weren't so old, we'd be back out there. My next truck will be diesel.. I like most all of them.. but since I know so much about the Cummins trucks.. I'll most likely go with something with a cummins.. My brother-in-law has a 1994 dodge 2 wheel drive 5 speed manual with the cummins.. all modded up with twin turbos.. I won't bore you with motor details but this thing pushes 800-900hp... still can be daily driven.. pulls his camper and whatever he needs.. still gets 24mpg if he's not in the throttle all the time, LOL Took this big 8000 pound truck down the 1/4 mile track pulling 15 seconds but couldn't hook the pavement.. tried taking off in 3rd gear which only bogged the turbos.. once the turbos lit.. had to let out of it got squirrely on him right about 80mph.. LOL things a crazy torque monster.. Just ran street tires.. he's got some slicks and is going back to the track this summer.. Rockytime
If I had to wear one of those bulky things my scrolling days would be over and my saw would be on C/L. Dust collection is the only way to go. My HF 13 gallon DC was cheap and works great as does a Dust Deputy. I also use a box fan with a cheap furnace filter. After a year the dust on the filter is nil. If my ceiling were not filled with lighting I would also put in one of those air filters. I cut with my nose up to the blade as that is the only way I can see and use a head magnifiers. The bulk on my face would be too much. I congratulate those that do use a mask. But that's just me. new2woodwrk
IMO these masks are disposable once the straps break The filters should be replaceable long enough that if you can get a year or twos worth of wear out of them you've basically paid $1.50 a month for renting the mask and filters That's how I look at it anyway OCtoolguy

I've replaced the filters about 2 times a year but in between I take them out and use my air hose to blow the dust backwards out of the filters as best I can.. new2woodwrk and OCtoolguy

This is the one I got https://www.harborfreight.com/70-gal-2-hp-heavy-duty-high-flow-high-capacity-dust-collector-61790.html that's hooked up to my planer and bandsaw.. amazing how fast the bandsaw will make a pile of sawdust and how much floats through the air if I don't have this running.. That said.. it's not the quietest running either.. I can hear it over my planer running boards through it.. I certainly don't want to hear that going all day long.. Think my shop vac is quieter, LOL and the shop vac I can hook up to run off my foot switch so it only runs when the saw it running... My intentions are to buy a Festool MIDI dust vac to hook up to the saws... I just gotta get through this year so I can get some money back into my pockets again.. was going to go with the cheaper brand Fein... but the reviews on the NEW ones say they are not what they used to be.. I really wished I had the room for the one you have. If my shop were bigger I'd like my DC routed to every machine. I can't so I have to use the one extra hose and move it around. Then I have to pull my scroll saw away from the corner to get at the CHEAP and CRAPPY plastic gates I got from WoodCraft. Hence the wheels on my saw. kmmcrafts and OCtoolguy 1

Melanie, Thank you for posting this.. I happen to of had a honey-do list when I got up which involved running to Walmart... anyway.. Walmart had these.. I bought the larger roll they had.. just to make sure I have enough.. price was $3.48.. I picked up the 3/4" as the 1" looked like it could be too wide.. though the 3/4 looked maybe a bit narrow.. I haven't changed it yet and probably wont until later.. I've gotta get out and do some cutting.. Just wanted to update that I found the stuff.. Of coarse... after I did order a new mask from eBay for $20, LOL I'll update once I put this on and see how it works out.. meflick and OCtoolguy 1
kmmcrafts
Well I put the new strap on my mask today and what a difference.. Maybe the cause of the sinus issues I had going on a while back.. That old strap got weak over time an I never really realized how bad it was until I put that new one on.. WOW... not smelling the oak anymore.. had I not cut all this Oak I probably wouldn't have even realized it wasn't sealing the mask on my face very well.. They had black.. which was a plus.. can't imagine how dirty that white one would look in a few hours use.. I bought the larger roll they had and I believe there's enough to replace again.. meflick and OCtoolguy
Sycamore67
I use a N100 particulate mask. These are disposable masks, very light but are very good. We used them at work where we had toxic dust. We went thru standard fitting and testing to make certain they worked properly.
