JTTHECLOCKMAN
How many here use the hold down foot supplied with the saw when new?? How many have taken it off all together??? How many still have it on but do not use it and use it to hold up an air hose or something else??? OCtoolguy
Foxfold
I'm not an experience scroller by most standards, but I took mine off as I found it got in my way, although I'm sure it would come in handy in some circumstances. Chunkthekid
Came off right away. I don't think it made it to the new house. OCtoolguy
Scrappile
First thing off my saw. OCtoolguy
Bill WIlson
When I first started scrolling, I used the hold down on my Craftsman saw. That thing vibrated enough to make the hold down almost a necessity. Besides, I really didn't know any better. As I got better at cutting, I realized it was more hindrance than help, so I took it off. Never used the one on my 2nd saw, DeWalt or my current saw, EX-21. scrollerpete
That was the first thing that I removed from the saw, and don’t ask me where it is now? OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
At present, I have 3 saws and none of them have the hold down on them. My first saw didn't have it. The previous owner must have ditched it.
Rockytime
I still have the hold downs from the three Hawks I had. They are in a tool cabinet somewhere. OCtoolguy
Rockytime
BTW, the shafts on the hold downs are excellent 1/4" machinable material. Lots of space is taken up with my steel and brass stash. OCtoolguy

kmmcrafts
My new Hawk is the only saw that still has it on.. that's because you have to take the accessory arm off to get it out.. as I tried to take it off... but I haven't had time to fuss with it too much.. but it is raised up and out of the way as best as I could get it.. I've never used one.. so I have no idea how it helps.. LOL.. I have all of them for each saw.. just not on the saws... bazzz
Removed it and stashed it away. I found it when I was cleaning up and had to think about what it was. My old Craftsman saw has a poor guard design anyway. It is only the weight of the plastic holding down the piece being cut, not a spring or a clamp. jollyred
Mine are in a box somewhere. I actually like having the board slap up and down ocassionally to keep me awake. Karl S and OCtoolguy
JTTHECLOCKMAN
Maybe we could send them to a specific place and they can reuse them for new saws. They all are from reading here brand new. They keep recycling them they could skip making that piece. meflick and OCtoolguy 1

Probably some idiot scratched their finger or the wood started bouncing and pinched their finger.. and thus.. a safety device was invented and required to be on any new machine.. Now.. to me it's more of a safety hazard on there than off.. but that's just me... gotta remember.. they have some real dumb people in this world.. since they now have to mark coffee cups with Caution Hot now days.. warning labels and caution signs all over the place these days.. Surprised they don't have a warning to not change the tire on a car while it's in motion, LOL barb.j.enders and OCtoolguy

You can be called out by the politically correct police. We must not harm in any way anyone's feelings. People are very sensitive these days. A whole new world. But you are probably right. Many examples of this all around us. I'm guessing but, I bet they are required to have it on there when sold new.. wombatie
My DeWalt - off and in a drawer somewhere. My EX21 - still on but on the side to the top, used to hold onto when I bring the arm down. Mainly there in case my granddaughter wants to have a go. Marg John B, OCtoolguy and Dave Monk
