OCtoolguy
I know I posted about this company last year but every so often there is a new batch of scrollers who need a good source to buy wood from. If you are like me and live on the West side of the U.S. there are not many places to buy from. It seems like everything is East of the Mississippi River. I just received my latest order from Cherokee Wood Products in Upland, Ca. They even have a "scroll saw wood" listing on their webpage. A very nice young man by the name of Chris is in charge of their online ordering. He had a question on my order and took the time to call me. I placed the order last Friday and just received it today. Can't beat that for getting it out and shipped. I checked my email today and found that they had sent me an email and for no reason at all, they credited my credit card for $19.95. Just because they felt like it. So, I hope you will give them a try. Here is their info. https://www.cherokeewood.com. Once you get there, go to "woodworking supplies" and the scroll saw wood is there. Click on it and start shopping. RabidAlien, kmmcrafts, Rockytime and 4 others 6

JimErn
Thanks Ray, always good to have another source. Curious about shipping rates? or did you go pick it up? OCtoolguy

I saved the wear and tear on my car and didn't have to fight the stop and go crowded freeways. They try very hard to keep shipping costs down. Give them a try. Call and talk to Chris. If you want custom cuts, no problem.
Scrappile
What kind of wood have you used from them. I may give them a little business. Have you gotten any Cherry from them? OCtoolguy
kmmcrafts
I've heard of this place before from somewhere.. but forgot about them.. I used to buy some thin stuff ( 1/16 ) from a seller on eBay years ago before I had a way to make my own.. But I don't even use the real thin stuff anymore.. Used to use it for bookmarks, pendants and keychains.. which reminds me.. I still have a brand new box full that I purchased about 8 years ago.. all exotics.. 1/16 thick.. jerry1939
Thanks for the info, however, I only looked at BB ply. The description said that the face contains patches. That instantly turned me off. jerry kmmcrafts

Have you gotten any Cherry from them? So far it's all been red oak, walnut and mahogany. But this time I ordered 6 different species. All 1/4" x 6" x 60" for the baskets I make. Cherry, poplar, mahogany, walnut, padauk and maple. They cut it all into 10" lengths. Nice stuff. With tax, shipping it was going to be $124.95 but with the discount it was $105 and change. Scrappile
Well, so far so good.... I placed an order yesterday, at 0745 hrs. today I got a call from the "very nice young man named Chris" to ask me what lengths I would like my wood cut into. I failed do specify because I had somehow got the impression they came in 24" length unless you specified differently. Guess I was thinking Ocooch Hardwoods. Any way, he was very helpful as @octoolguy said he is. OCtoolguy

If you find cause to come visit me, we will have a good opportunity to sit and drink coffee. Or whatever your beverage of choice may be. I hope you are happy with your order. Did you order enough to make the shipping charges worthwhile? Please let me know how it all works out for you. Scrappile

But, if you are ever in the need for another source, give them a try. I am going to check out Sloane's too. I have never looked at them. And as for cancer, we just learned last night that we lost a very good friend from the dreaded "C" word. But, on the bright side, many more folks are surviving it now than ever before. Scrappile
I just want to point out, cherokee has the same grade plywood. B/BB as Sloan's. They also sell BB/BB grade (a lesser grade). OCtoolguy

One piece of 1/8" had a crack, but nothing I can not work around and it is wood. May have cracked in transport. Some very nice Cherry and a beautiful piece of Beech. I purchase the Beech piece because I have never had any before. This piece really looks like Red Oak. I an anxious to cut it. I think it will handle a couple of Fiona Kingdon's patterns. The Cherry is scheduled for the tower clock that @heppnerguy and @rdatelle, did recently. I may get to order more because I found it really difficult to decide how much I needed. I have the wood stacked and will let it rest a week or so. Hope it doesn't warp like a lot of wood I have purchased. I can say, buying from Cherokee was a pleasant experience and everything went like clockwork. Right now, I see no reason why they will not be my go too place from now on. I didn't compare costs with Ocooch Hardwoods but I'm pretty sure they are close to the same. I think shipping may have been a little less for me, but Cherokee and I are on the west coast. Any way. Little disappointed I don't get to travel to Rays with a brown poop bag,,,, (I was even saving up , if you can picture that), but I'm very happy with what I received and how I was treated (I mean they called me to discuss my order)...... Please give them a look when you need to order some wood next time. Ray, I did not get the discount you talked about....... They must REALLY like you! I have no idea what went wrong but I'll give it some time to show up. If it doesn't, I'll try to recall what I wrote.

Paul, I got the feeling that maybe that refund they sent me was the commission off of your purchase. LOL! As to the piece that was cracked, you might just shoot Chris an email to tell him what happened. Possibly in shipping. That way he might be able to change his shipping method. Anyway, I'll just bet if you do, you'll maybe get another piece sent to you. On the last order that I sent them, I purchased all 6 species in 60" pieces (5 footers). In the notes area, I asked that they if they were to cut the boards down in length that they not to cut them into pieces that couldn't be divided by 10" as I needed that length for my projects. Well, the guys out in the yard were confused and came to Chris asking what to do. He made the decision to cut everything down to 12" lengths in order to give me some leeway. So, when I got the order, I was somewhat disappointed but figured that it was my cryptic request. So, I called Chris to find out how I should have ordered it so as not to have that happen in the future. He shouldered the blame saying that it was his decision. I told him not to worry that it would be ok and next time I would call the order in so as to not have any misunderstandings in the future. He apologized all over the place but I told him not to worry. Two days later, I get a UPS shipment that contained 6 12" pieces of wood. All 6 species that I had ordered. He wanted to make up for his mistake. What a stand up guy. Cherokee Wood Products will be getting all of my wood business in the future. He also told me to let you folks know that they have many other types of wood to offer but when he put the website together, (he did it himself) he got way behind and didn't get it all finished. So, if you don't see what you want, give him a call or shoot them an email and inquire about what you want. They are a first class business and are catering to the scroll saw/hobby community. I can't say enough good about them and the service they are providing here on the West coast. Scrappile
