Popular Post meflick Posted April 11, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted April 11, 2019 I found these in the Spring, 2018 Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine. The article was entitled "Heart Shaped Boxes" but there was also the pattern for the "guitar pick" shaped box and an oval box in the pullout section. I have not made an oval one yet. There are several guitar players in my family so I thought they would make nice gifts for them to store picks in. One has been given to my husband. The other two will probably be given to my niece and nephew who play probably for Christmas. (I don't know that I have had anything ready for Christmas this early before! ) The one I gave my husband is made of walnut in the middle and the top and the bottom are from over 100 year old oak. The walnut was from trees from the yard of the house he grew up in and was weathered in an old barn they had for years. The oak came from that old barn wood its self. He had taken the walnut several years ago and made some things with it. This was some scrap pieces. We tore the barn down last year. The other two pieces are maple on the top and butternut in the middle. Scrolling Steve, spotsdad, MTCowpoke22 and 9 others 12 Quote
Scrappile Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 (edited) Very nice. I should do one for my son. Is there something holding them shut? Or is the friction of the little dowel enough? Edited April 11, 2019 by Scrappile meflick 1 Quote
amazingkevin Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 He will appreciate this more than you know!! Good job!!! meflick 1 Quote
meflick Posted April 11, 2019 Author Report Posted April 11, 2019 (edited) Thank you Paul and Kevin for your kind words. Paul, the dowel is glued into the bottom and then the friction/tightness of it in the top holds it quite well. I have seen some similar where some people used some tiny magnets in them however. John B Posted April 12, 2019 Report Posted April 12, 2019 Beautiful Melanie. I do love the contrast in timbers. My brother in-law is a guitarist, banjo player etc etc. so one of those would sit just right. meflick 1 Quote
