21st Keys

Not sure if people still have big twenty first birthday parties and get presented with keys.
The 1st one I made for my daughter, before I new about purchasing small photo frames. It opens for signatures. The second for my Cousin's Son (She placed photos in it before presenting it on the night
I think Christine's is pine and merranti and the other is pine and jarrah with his name in Sandalwood.

Must be a down under thing lol. Never heard of giving keys on 21 birthdays.

We do it in the UK, also on the 18th birthday as it's now the year of the coming of age.

I think here in the US, we just go drinking.    My 21st, I was at sea, poking holes in the ocean, studying up for watchstation quals and seriously questioning some decisions in life.  LOL

21 was the coming of age, when you had the right to vote, drink and make your own way in life. As Steve said, 18 is the big party now days.

That is just one of the things I like about this forum hearing about how things are in other parts of the world.  When I turned 21 I was in the Army on Okinawa. Army didn’t give me a key lol.

See, those Aussies and there ways.  This is a great tradition I had not heard of before. I agree in America they go drink.  My granddaughter sent us a picture of her having "her first drink" when she turned 21.  I said ya, right, aren't you the granddaughter that bragged to me once that she had 5 different fake IDs!...  She is always trying to shock us, by we know she is a great girl.

I got a 'key' for my 21st as did we all in those days, but as has been said it's not 18.  I'm old fashioned though and still prefer the 21st birthday key. I got my daughter a key when she reached 21 and she said I was 3yrs too late

I still have my keys from when I turned 21 and I gave my daughters keys for their 21st's even though 18 was the new 21. 
I love your idea of putting information on the inside to let the recipient know what happened the year they were born.  Great work John.
