Looks like a nice portable unit to drill with. I am more interested in the chuck you purchased to use with it. Have you had a chance to use it and how is the accuracy?

You watch for it then, but it can happen when half the unit is hanging over the edge of a piece and you are pushing down with both hands. If you have holes that need to be drilled close to the edge. That thing is plastic and does not travel all that smooth. At least mine does not. To do it many times a drill press is more accurate in my eyes.

Sure you can double stick tape and you can make any size you want. What I do when routing with it is to use scraps of the same thickness as the piece being drilled or routed and place along side the original piece so it does not tip.

Just wanted to give an update on the Seyco Drill being discussed here and noted to be out of stock now for months.  I reached out to Ray and Seyco earlier this morning to ask about this as I have looked at them off and on, but was always put off a little by the price of it so wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much on it.  This is the reply on got in reply to my question as to whether they would be getting them back in stock or if it had been discontinued: 

"We have had numerous delays from materials sources that has obviously caused us to have to delay producing the new design made necessary from unavailability of former materials. We are anxiously awaiting a promised delivery that should allow us to finish the tools and be back in operation within 30 days. We apologize for this unavoidable set of circumstances and appreciate you hanging in there with us. We promise they will be ready as soon as we can get our hands on materials needed to assemble the drills."

I asked that they notify me when they had them back so I could decide if I wanted one or not. If they do, I will post here in the Village for others interested.

@Dave Monk can you elaborate a bit on your statement that you wish it was built a bit better?

Kevin - let us know how you like your setup.  I have looked at some of those - I have also asked hubby to make me something similar to the Seyco tool - time is his factor more then anything else.  I just haven't pushed it to the head of the list.  Maybe I should.  It looks relatively simple to make.  What I like is the ability to move it around on a project and get to all areas easily.

I've only had this for a short time.. since I got it just this week.. The first day i used it I didn't have the little drill chuck so I could only use the larger 1/8" ? bit that came with my WEN / Dremel kit.. My experience with the bigger bit drilling in 5/8" cherry was.. lack of power from the WEN and when I crank up the speed.. still lack of power but also smoking / burning through the wood.. I was really worried about how it'd perform once I received the drill chuck for it.. That chuck came in the mail the next day so I installed that.. put a number 56 drill in it ( I mostly use 56-60 ) and it worked awesome... However... and I don't know if this is the tool itself OR the drill chuck or bit.. but the bit was not spinning completely smooth and wobble free.. so lining up the bit to the precise spot to drill was a bit of a challenge..

The drill chuck I bought was very stiff moving and I had to spray some WD-40 on it to get the chucks to move nice and smooth.. so very possible that this is not clamping down on the bit evenly as it should..  Once I barely touch the bit down ( very carefully ) it seems smooth.. and only the last 1/4" of the bit looks like it's wobbling.. so I need to play around with it and see exactly where the issue is.. Maybe too much run out on the WEN tool.. Steve Good did a review of the WEN and mentioned this was an issue with them.. I'm kinda used to using a wobbly drill since my drill press is quite sloppy too so I was able to use it as is..

My limited use so far.... I love the set up.. very convenient and portable.. and IF I find that it's the WEN issue.. it's worth every penny to me to buy a higher end Dremel.. One thing also to note... The power cord on the WEN isn't all that long.. and having the cord coming out on the top end of the set up.. the weight of the cord drooping down and having to keep it out of my way.. I may look into the cordless Dremel.. I think it would make it more portable.. not sure how the power of the cordless ones are.. Might be a peeve of mine but I hate power cords and having to be by an outlet etc.. just my opinion but I'm thinking the cordless would be way more user friendly.. 

Something else that could be really useful ( maybe ) is a laser light to point where the drill is going to be.. But I'm sure it's just that I'm new to using it and lining up the bit with where you want to drill will come easier with practice..

Maybe it is just mine.........it doesn't go up and down very smooth. I try to keep it lubed. I think it might be better if it had two post to go up and down on. Maybe build more like the unit Kevin bought.  I don't use it very much so it isn't a big deal. I guess I'm kinda a tite wod. For $100 i just expected a bit more.

Thanks for posting the links on the items you purchased. I noticed on the specifications for the chuck the smallest bit it will grip is a 1/32. You may want to try bits of different sizes to see if they all have the same results, if you haven't already.

Just to update.. I think the drill bit had a issue.. the new bit I put in it has been fine...

Gotta say.. I love this set up... took a little time to get the hang of it.. but man.. I don't know how I did all these years without it.. LOL

Just a heads up here. I looked at that tiny chuck on Amazon for $12.53. Then, just for the heck of it, I went to H/D and found it from them for $7 and change. I did have to order it but I went ahead and ordered one of their "DustStopper" kits at the same time. The chuck came in but the DustStopper is coming to my home tomorrow. Not sure why. Anyway, that little chuck works just great and it holds a #68 drill bit which is the smallest I have for scrolling. Hey, $5 is $5.

That is where I bought mine from also. But I too have the one from Mike's Workshop and that works great in my full size drill press. That one does not have a zero clearance chuck on it. My 12" table top does though.

Yeah I read about HD having them right after I ordered mine off eBay, LOL... But then my HD is about 40 mile away too so.. Guessing it was cheaper just to pay a little more for the one I got..

I keep forgetting that you live in the "outback" Kevin. I see why you do things the way you do. I have always had the convenience of shopping close by. Even back before it was gridlock here, there was always shopping near me. Also, there was a time that money was not always a factor as much as it is now that I'm on a fixed income.

That Dust Stopper looks like a pretty neat set-up.  I have a Dust Deputy on my shop vac and that thing is the Bees Knees.  Works great with my random orbit sanders.

I do see a potential issue.  I didn't watch the whole video, so maybe he addressed it.  I wonder if that stacked configuration makes it more apt to tip over if you tug too hard on the vac hose?  I have my Dust Deputy attached in a side-by-side set up.  That one looks like it could get a little tippy.

In reality, the Dustopper  (correct name for it), is intended to be mounted side-by-side, that is why it only comes with one 90° elbow.  That being said, I don't think it would be real tippy stack mounted on a cart.  The vacuum weights quite a bit more than the bucket.  If it does get tippy, just add some weight to the vacuum, like a brick, it is not going to fill up anyway...

I built something like that, well threw it  together for my shop vac and 5-gallon bucket dust deputy.  It is not tippy if you use common sense moving it.  Of course I used wheels I had on hand which I admit should probably be larger.

f I had seen that set up back then, I would have been really tempted

Go back and watch the video all the way to the end. He pretty much addresses that issue. And my shop vac is the 14 gallon so it is a bit wider base so I know mine won't be top heavy. This is the best configuration I've come across.
