Travis
I saw an announcement yesterday that the Scrollsaw Association of the World is closing their doors and dissolving their 501c. Were any of you members? I've looked at it many times, but I was never clear about what benefits it offered to members. I think they put together packets on how to start local clubs, with some support/listings. What else did they offer? Hate to see another scroll saw resource go. Is there something SSV can offer to help fill the void?
Scrappile
I think this forum fills the void. Tons of info, education resources, world wide participation, lists clubs and organizations, product reviews, vendor listings, wonderful patterns, the list goes on. And all for free unless one chooses to donate in some fashion. Really, what more could one offer? MrsN
One of the things that they offered was insurance to local chapters. I was a member of a local group that was a SAW affiliate, and was a member of SAW myself. The insurance coverage from SAW allowed the group to put on a craft fair and to have demonstrations. That was a big benefit. When originally formed, our club was the same. We were an affiliate and several of our original members were SAW members as well. I considered joining, but never got around to it. SAW also provided a way for scrollers across the country to have some contact with one another. Remember that it's heyday was before social media and to some extent, even before scrolling had much of an internet presence.
Rockytime
I was a member for a year but did not have much relevance for me. It would have if there were a scrolling club here. There is a wood turning club here but I don't know if it includes scrollers.
new2woodwrk
I would love to have a club in my area, but it seems there aren't many in the area interested. I think there is one scroller a few miles away, and Scroolsaw pete comes to pcb once in awhile but that's about all I know of the area. Too bad really
Jim McDonald
We tried to start a club here in central Indiana, but trying to draw from a large area spelled doom from the outset. We were all active posters over at the old magazine board, but I have not seen or heard from any of them for a long time. sawdust1
They are not closing as of late today. They keep changing from day to day. Edited April 17, 2019 by sawdust1 tomsteve and WayneMahler 1
poupster2
I was also a member but in the last few years, I did not see any benefit for me. There is no local clubs around me and I found that This village was way more beneficial to me, and this is where I'm spending my SAW membership money. I wonder if someone on here has any information about the insurance piece of doing demos?
Travis
Huh...things keep changing by the hour...LOL. I'm glad to see they're coming back, though. They've been around for so long, I'd hate to see a great resource like that go. It seems like they add a lot of support for local clubs, which is really cool. Especially for insurance and the other admin stuff clubs need to function. A lot of work goes into making these things happen. I'm glad to see someone was able to step up to keep it going. jbrowning
I had been a member. I hadn't had a chance to re-new my membership for this year.
tgiro
According to their website -- " GOOD NEWS SAW Members We are not closing we are going through a audit at the moment and we are trying to get the SAW treasury right before we continue. WE ARE NOT CLOSED but we are trying to get the financials in order for any future BOD. "

The update on the audit was posted on the SAW Facebook page by Lee Neiden, President of SAW, at 3:40 PM on April 16, 2019. Like many others here I am not now or never have been a SAW member. I never saw the value for me. jbrowning and JTTHECLOCKMAN
Roberta Moreton
I checked on it a bit, didn’t see the value.
