rdatelle
Hi everyone, I installed one of those new Pegas replacement chucks from Bearwood for my ex 21 saw about two months ago but I'm having trouble with the tension lever popping up a lot while i'm cutting. Is anyone else having the same problem and how do you fix it. Thanks, Ralph OCtoolguy
bcdennis
This was happening to me with my EX21. I found that I was pushing the lever to far back and it was hitting the arm while it was going up. The fix was to only push it up just past the 12:00 position, it still locks the lever but clears the arm while in operation. Scrappile
You have probably seen this but in case you have not I will post it. I do not know that it has anything to do with you problem. If you have only had you clamps two months, maybe you should contact Pegas. Someone else on the forum had a problem with them and I think Pegas took care of it. Yes, I only push it a little past 12, not all the way but it still does it. Sometimes the blade will pop out to. OCtoolguy

JimErn
Check the upper arm making sure it is parallel to the table before you tension the blade OCtoolguy
rdatelle
Heard back from Bearwood today. They said the set screws might have to be adjusted when you first install it which I did. I lined up a piece of wood with a straight line and placed it behind the blade and adjusted the set screws. Everything is straight. It's only the top blade that keeps popping out which is causing the lever to pop up. I really have to tighten the knob down pretty tight to keep it from coming loose. I wrote back to them and told them what it was doing so I'll see what happens. I think I might have a bad set screw on top maybe. I had issues with the thumb screws on mine.. but I don't know if it was me or the thumb screw.. I didn't like the design of the wing on the set I got as it was a bigger wing and smooth.. I traded the screws from the ones on my Dewalt. and haven't had any issues since then.. I like the little ridges or textured wing on the thumb screws not so much as for gripping power just they have a better more comfortable feel.. that I was used to.. I read on another forum that someone had some issues with the thumb screw wearing out.. so they contacted QTE and they sent him new thumb screws no charge...maybe there was a bad batch of them? Not sure.. OCtoolguy
scrollingforsanity
I purchased a set of Pegas blade clamps from QTE. The thumb screw swivels only lasted about three months and then would not hold a blade, I contacted QTE and they had not had any prior problems but sent me a set anyway. Put them in and have had no more issues and have quite a few hours on them. They are quite inexpensive so I keep a few sets on hand. I believe it was about five dollars for the top and bottom swivels. I hope you get your problem fixed. That is definitely where I would start. grizz OCtoolguy

I have the same set bought from the same place and I've had no problems with them but it would be nice to know what to watch for and look for on the swivels. rdatelle
Maybe I'll try a new know on mine and see what happens. Could be the problem. I shouldn't have to tighten that knob as tight as i have to. That seems to be what's slipping. OCtoolguy

I don't have to tighten mine much at all. In fact, I really force myself to not over-tighten them because on my Dewalt, I had to use a bit more force. Why don't you see if they will let you exchange the clamp set complete for another one?
Roberta Moreton
I was having the problem, checked and my arm was not parallel to the table. Fixed it. OCtoolguy
scrollingforsanity
Ray they the blade just started slipping out of the top and bottom. As the day wore on it got worse. My arm is parallel to the table. I was finding myself trying to compensate by tightening the thumb screws. Did not want to damage them so I quit until I got the new ones. Actually I had a new set of swivels for the EX they looked the same so I put them in. Fixed the problem. When I received the New Pegas swivels I installed them. everything works great. Like you I have to barely tighten the thumb screws to hold the blades. grizz.

If I don't tighten it enough, that's when it slips and the lever pops up. OCtoolguy
Lucky2
Hello Ralph, I think that your problem, is being caused by using to much tension. You should be able to close the clamp handle to the two o'clock position, by pushing back on it. If you can only push it to the twelve o'clock position, it's obviously to tight. Or, it is clamped to far down on the blade, which will prevent the blade from closing completely or cause it to pop up. I've had this issue with my EX21, and this is how I fixed it. Good luck. Woodrush
I bought mine from bearwood in December. I probably have 300 hours on them with no problems at all OCtoolguy
