May Flowers - Scroll Saw Challenge

Spring is in the air!  This is my favorite time of the year.  I can open the garage door to my shop and enjoy the weather.  This month's challenge is a celebration of spring!  Post your spring-themed project such as flowers, butterflies, birds, or whatever brings fond memories of this time of year.  Be sure to tell us a little something about your project too.  We enjoy the stories behind the project as much as the project itself.

I'll kick it off with a couple of flower's I've made for my wife.  The first was something I found on Pinterest while searching for Celtic Knots. I couldn't find any info on the original artist.  The second is a Steve Good pattern, and after making one for my wife, I got a request to make another for a friend to give to her husband on their anniversary.

In keeping with Alien's theme, I did this, then the wife liked it and took it, so naturally I made it for her

I posted this project awhile ago but it fits here.  The flower and petals are made of thin wood shavings.  The Monarch is wood with epoxy fill.

I originally planned to wait and see if these really work but, this challenge came up so, maybe other members want to try it also.

You can buy these professionally made but, I just used scrap pine. Height about 5 3/4", Width about 4". 1/4" dowels abt 1 1/2" and
mesh material to put cotton, dog hair, twine or other materials a Hummingbird can use to start a nest.

I used the easy way out and just cut one side of the roof 3/4" longer than the other side to over-lap but, it could be miter cut.

Okay, quick question...I've seen several posts here and there where someone filled a scroll saw project with epoxy of varying colors.  Does anyone have the process for that (or a link to a site?)  My experience with epoxy has been "mix it up, blob it on, and make sure nothing else gets glued down by accident".

Carefully mix in a small container, add colorant and carefully use it.

I measure each part of the epoxy so I have the right ratio and use Bob Smith epoxy.

I use a longer setting epoxy for projects like the Monarch.

If you just blob it on, that is what you get.

A Lichtenberg burning.  It looked like branches of a bush so I put a butterfly on it.

Here's one I did a few years back.  Maple vase with red cedar and oak petals.  Compound cut on a scroll saw and glued togeter.

I too really like the love birds. Simple, yet elegant. Where'd you get the pattern?

Not too much of a story other than I like to make clocks.. and had been looking for more wall hang clock patterns.. ran across these on Sue Meys site and had to cut them.. Been good sellers so far.. Bigger one made from Red Oak.. and the other is Ash

It turns out that flowers have seldom been the subject of my scroll saw work.  I only remember three such projects.  The project that I favour is one called morning glory:

I liked it so much that I made two of them.

The pattern is by Mike Williams.
