I have a lady who wants a sign fo her back yard. I have made very little things for outside over the years. She has wiener dogs and wants a sign with Wienerland on it.I was thinking in shape of bone with lettering in middle. I would like to know what wood to use and finish or paint? Any idea would be welcome. Thanks for any help.

How about a sign in the shape of a hot dog? For wood, maybe cedar? Or a good grade of exterior plywood. Finished with varnish? Not my strong suit so I'm just tossing it out there.

Here is a simple pattern per your request description.
I would probably enlarge it to about 15" wide. (Enlarge by 150 percent if your program uses percentages).
One of the best woods for out-side would be cedar.
I would probably use 1/2" cedar with a 1/4" Baltic Birch backer painted black.
Then generously coat the entire project with a Spar Varnish.

Good luck and God Bless! Spirithorse

Oops! After posting, I see your request said HOT DOG not DOG BONE.
Can you change the shape to a Hot Dog if that is what is preferred?

for finish, general finishes 450 or sherwin williams A100 non tinted. both are long lasting. theyre both water based (acrylic latex or sumthin like that) and easy to use. the SW is a house paint and non tinted is without the pigments so it dries clear. theyre both white in the can but dry clear-when applied in thin coats
