Intarsia sander

Craigslist win!! I almost pulled the trigger on the Grizzly inflatable Drum / Flap Sander a couple of times, than I found this one on CL. I just need to finish the dust collector connections.  It needed a lot of clean up. But the price was so low I almost had to wear a mask. 😉
The big drum is 6 X 9" and the smaller one is 4 x 9" and powered by a 2hp motor. I am a happy camper!!

Great find. I search CL everyday even if I'm not really looking for anything. Never know what pops up.

Me too Les. So far I've scored all my scroll saws, my Fein vac, my bandsaw, my portable table saw, and my miter saw. I've sold even more. I'm way ahead on C/L.

That is a great find! I built my own because I could not find one. The pneumatic drums alone are worth almost $400.

What brand is it? Sand-right?

It label says LOBO, which I have never heard of.  The info I could find on the internet says they went out of business about 20 years ago.  That made me more cautious, but the main bearing seem fine and the drums hold air.  It is belt drive with a big motor, but those are replaceable.  Here is another shot of it.

Congrats, that is a great find.  I have never seen one on Craigslist.  I keep looking for the deal of a life time on a good drum sander (the thickness sander type), but no luck so far.  Yesterday I purchased the plans for making one.   Probably will never make it, but, well, just maybe.

I've been thinking about making a small one myself. I don't have room for a full sized one.

I just found one similar to this but it has two flap wheels on the right side and it's only a 1 hp. motor. $125. Unfortunately, I don't have room for it. Dang!

Oh heck, I just emailed the seller and if it's still available, I'm going to jump on it. If nothing else, I can resell it. After seeing what they sell for new, I can't pass it up.

The bearings if the failed would be standard easily available parts, as are the bladders. The bladders will in time start to leak, but again they are available on line.

Ray Jump on that Sandrite, find a spot for it.

I built this one from mostly free parts. But I had to buy the drums 6 x 9 and 2 x 9, I had the motor, the AC guys at work had the bearings and pulleys laying around. The shaft  and stop collars were from MCmaster Carr and I had one of the machinists at work thread the ends, one side is a left hand thread the other normal my metal lathe is not big enough to do a 1" shaft..  So it is not a trivial project to build your own.

I did buy a set of pneumatic drums that I ran on my wood lathe, nut I prefer dedicated tools so that they are ready to go when I need them.1949450966_DSC_6474cropped.thumb.jpg.5e691fa924d848e34255d04da4568daf.jpg

Well, so far, no reply to my email inquiry. Probably gone. I'm not sure I even need this but I hate to let a good deal get by me.
